State of Origin 2014: The moments we'll never forget

By The Roar / Editor

The 2014 State of Origin series provided some of the toughest rugby league we have witnessed in recent years. With the series wrapped up, The Roar has taken a look back at some of the most memorable moments, and asks which ones will never be forgotten?

Game 1 saw a brutal encounter, with the Morris twins’ courageous efforts to play on through serious injuries likely to go down in Origin folklore.

Jarryd Hayne was one of the top performers in Game 1 and 2

Jarryd Hayne also delivered one of the finest individual Origin performances in recent years as he led his New South Wales side to a Game 1 victory.

With New South Wales trailing Queensland late in Game 2, Trent Hodkinson stepped up to deliver the try that secured victory for the Blues.

However, the game wasn’t without its controversy with Aaron Woods’ ‘chest of god’ moment a big talking point from the match.

With seconds remaining, Hayne ran out the clock as the Blues took out their first series victory in nine years.

The two captains share a moment after Game 1

In Game 3 Queensland were staring down the barrel of a whitewash, but they bounced back in a big way, as their attacking stocks clicked into gear.

Darius Boyd sealed a Queensland victory with his 15th Origin try to equal the all-time record and Cooper Cronk returned from a broken arm to cap off a dominant Queensland win.

Watch the video above and vote on what moment of the 2014 State of Origin series will never be forgotten.

What moments from the 2014 series will never be forgotten? The Refs 10m in games 1 and 2 to nullify QLDs attack. What a contrast it was when they got it right.

Morning Voice. I'm surprised you haven't made mention of this one yet! http://www.news.com.au/sport/nrl/brisbane-broncos-winger-daniel-vidot-makes-more-ground-than-metreeater-paul-gallen/story-fndv2w3r-1226987480393

"I swear about 15m a run" What a load of rubbish. A myth. Gallen is far from the top in metres gained per hit up.

Maybe Hayne but Gallen was defintely 2nd or 1st. He averages I swear about 15m a run. Has a bout 15 hit-ups and lays about 25 tackles.

Great defensive work by NSW over the series except for that 2nd half in game 3. Although if the niggle was out of the game, and punches back in, QLD would have been up 3-0 come FT of game 3. NSW worked the niggle game to perfection like a bubbling pot in the first 2 games!

The thing that I will remember is NSW defence in the first half of game three. It was outstanding. QLD had enough ball in all three matches to win them all but NSW would not let them score. The best defensive effort I have seen in a long time. Game three blew out because NSW were spent by half time. Well done NSW but we will be back next year better than ever.

It really comes down to who wins next year and the teams that are fielded. If QLD fields the same team as game 3 for all 3 games next year and win the series the fact that Cronk was out injured becomes a much bigger deal than it is now. If QLD go on to win a few more in a row starting next year (a definite possibility) I really have no idea. Regardless I think the vision of Hayne with his arms outstretched running to the crowd will be the vision we see the most from this series.

Make the most of it NSW, QLD will have the trophy back next year, after the 3rd game you can see how far they were ahead of NSW in all departments. Go the Blues. "GO THE EAGLES"

There was one incident in Origin 2014 which overrides all others. Even the joy of the Bulldog contribution. The Bird 'two match' tackle on Myles may have been borderline acceptable but for Gallen purposely and with undue vigour driving the upper part of Myles' body and neck and head into the turf. Gallen spite for failed punches past. My heart stopped. Visions of Alex. The wrong man was suspended. And, Yes I do remember Myles' head butt on Farah. He escaped suspension.
