You've got to feel for Anthony Griffin

Imagine giving seven years of your life to an organisation just to be kicked out because someone who walked out six years ago wanted his job back.

Unfortunately for Anthony Griffin, who has been a great fit as Brisbane coach for the last four years, this has taken place.

Wayne Bennett wants his coaching spot back to help rebuild the Broncos and that means Griffin’s stint is over.

But Bennett can’t deliver the same success to Brisbane as he did when he was the coach from 1988-2008. Nor will his presence alone help the rebuilding process of a once successful club.

Griffin still had a lot to offer to the Broncos and could’ve done a much better job helping the players, most of whom he helped develop through under-20s, deliver a premiership.

Corey Parker backed Griffin in the days leading up to the blockbuster $4 million, three-year signing of ‘supercoach’ Bennett. It would be embarrassing for Parker to have been ignored, and what’s best for the players has been decided by the board with minimal discussion with senior players.

Griffin was forced to make very difficult and controversial decisions, like asking Sam Thaiday to step down as captain, to try and bring the club success. Unfortunately it has all been for nothing.

I wish all the best to Anthony Griffin and his family as he enters the post-Broncos stage of his life. I sincerely hope he can live up to his potential as a coach.

I also wish the best to Benny, and I hope that he can deliver on his multi-million dollar contract. But at this stage I’m not convinced.
