Stage 19 of the 2014 the Tour de France is a typical transition day between the Pyrenees and the time trial tomorrow, a stage often targeted by opportunists with good legs after the mountains. Join us on The Roar for all the action from 10:00pm AEST.

After Vincenzo Nibali’s dominant performance to Hautacam yesterday, the Tour looks sewn up for the Italian. His seven-minute lead is untouchable and Stage 19 shouldn’t pose any problems for The Shark.

In the first week, this flat 208.5 kilometre run from Maubourguet val d’Adour to Bergerac would be prime sprinter’s territory, but because of the mountains there will be some tired sprint trains in the peloton, so days like this favour breakaways.

There was a similar Stage 19 in the 2012 Tour, when Mark Cavendish used all of his sprint power to catch the breakaway riders of Luis Leon Sanchez and Nicolas Roche just 50 metres before the line to win his second stage of that year’s race.

The Manxman won’t be contesting today’s finish after crashing out of the race, so it will be left to men such as Marcel Kittel and Andre Greipel to keep the race under control for a sprint finish.

Astana and Nibali will just want to ensure they get through the stage safely and ensure there are no nasty surprises for Nibali, who looks set to become the sixth man in history to win all three Grand Tours, an achievement that will see him go down in history as a great of the sport.

Join us on The Roar for all the coverage of Stage 19.
