Bunnies want Reynolds to stay

South Sydney Rabbitohs players are hopeful that halfback Adam Reynolds will stay at the NRL club, despite rumours about a possible move.

Centre David Tyrell said that he hopes his good mate Reynolds would stay with Rabbitohs, as speculation surrounding the halfback continues to swirl. Rabbitohs coach Michael Maguire has been interchanging Reynolds and young gun Luke Keary in the last few rounds.

However with five-eighth and club favourite John Sutton safe from being replaced, it is widely considered that the team simply can’t have both Reynolds and Keary. With Souths failing to deliver a long-awaited premiership in the last two seasons with Reynolds at the helm, it seems it’s just a matter of time before Keary is given his chance to call the shots.

When Souths rake and New Zealand international Issac Luke was asked whether he thought Reynolds would stay with the club, Luke quipped, “He’d better.”

“Obviously I would love him to stay here,” Luke said. “But at the moment I know he’s only worried about Canberra this weekend and training.”

Luke even said that he was feeling the pressure from Keary and that he welcomed the healthy competition for spots within the club.

Macguire stated that his intention earlier in the season was to have Keary and Reynolds as half partners and Sutton at lock, but when Keary was ruled out for the first few months of the season with a pectoral injury and Sutton playing fairly ordinary in the forwards, that idea went out the window.

Tyrell says the ability to have Keary coming off the bench is definitely an ace up the team’s sleeve, but with both playmakers able to be a starting half at most clubs in the NRL, it would be unlikely that either would be willing to play second fiddle to the other.

When asked whether the squad had to pick Reynolds up after the halfback had expressed his disappointment to the media about being subbed off, interchange player Joe Picker insisted that wasn’t the case.

“He’s [Reynolds] been fine. When you look at the bench you’ve got Keary on the bench and either him or Sutto [Sutton] were going to come off.” Picker went on to say it was unreal that they had Sutton, Keary and Reynolds at their disposal.

Keary showed what he could offer when he set up a try on his first touch of the ball against Parramatta last round. Tyrell said the x-factor Keary provided went hand-in-hand with the platform of the game that Reynolds had set up and that it is clear the Rabbitohs team wants to keep both players on board and interchange between the two.

A win on Monday night at Canberra over the Raiders would move the Rabbitohs up to second place on the ladder with six games remaining in the season.

Gotta agree with Louis here. Most articles are written on speculation.

Why s it people in the media are running down Adam Reynolds? His team think he's a keeper, he seems to be doing better than Mitchell Pearce but no ones writing about him. He seems to be nearly always out played his opposite number. Why is all this speculation... Are the media trying to push him over the edge mentally?

Wouldn't believe denials from Souths., Before they signed Inglis, Richardson said three times that the club wasn't interested in him and had no room under the salary cap. Souths denied that they were shopping Champion just a few days before they shopped him to Storm. Souths lie, as simple as that.

So your saying that just because something has been speculated, it shouldn't be written about? Examples-rumours Wayne Bennett would be leaving the Knights, Mick Potter being sacked etc etc. It's the nature of the game

Like I said, just speculation. It would seem more likely than not that one of them would leave seeing as most clubs would love to have either of them as their halfback

The article lacks a lot of credibility because the author does not state who has said Reynolds is leaving. No one from the club has said it, only tabloid talk. Also two minor corrections: David Tyrrell is not a centre but a prop, and there has not been an interchange of Reynolds and Keary over the last few rounds. It has happened once: last game, v Parramatta. This is the only game Reynolds has not played the full 80 minutes.

It was reported and confirmed this week that Maguire has started the process of resigning Reynolds, this was confirmed by Adam's agent. People need to understand that whilst Keary is a gun player, he still does not have the experience in first grade that Reynolds does. While it's true that Keary is an impact player and a natural, no amount of talent can buy experience in playing for a side for 3 years and knowing exactly what and where your 5/8 is, and what plays are coming next. Maguire acknowledged this by benching Keary on his 2nd week comeback from injury. That all said, Reynolds has not performed this year comsistently. But with media pressure, and talk of his position going to a "minor" so to speak, here's hoping it's enough to fire him up on Monday night when they take on the Raiders.
