Dragons' Farrell out for NRL season after second pectoral injury

By News / Wire

Luckless St George Illawarra centre-threequarter Dylan Farrell will miss the rest of the NRL season after suffering a ruptured pectoral muscle for the second time this year.

Farrell suffered the injury playing for the Dragons feeder club the Illawarra Cutters on the weekend.

It was just the second game back for the 23-year-year old after sustaining the long term injury for the first time against Melbourne in round six.

Farrell impressed early this season in his move from South Sydney and Dragons high performance manager Andrew Gray said it was just a matter of more bad luck for the former under-20s team of the year member.

“It is extremely disappointing for Dylan and the club that scans today have confirmed a second pectoral injury this season,” Gray said in a statement.

“It is the other pectoral muscle to the one he ruptured earlier in the year with the only positive being the fact that he knows exactly what the rehabilitation process is and what is required over the next few months.

“Dylan was carrying the ball and went to fend someone off, his arm was outstretched and the tackler landed on the back of his shoulder and just overstretched that muscle.

“There really wasn’t too much that Dylan could have done it about, it is just extremely bad luck.”

It is bad luck for him but not sure Farrell would have come back into the team this year bar injury. He's a good enough player for first grade but not good enough to consider dropping other in-form players. Quinlan is not a superstar but he is providing a point of difference in the attack with his strong support game and bit of playmaking ability, Dugan is getting involved enough at centre to justify his talent. Beale too has started picking up his involvement and I couldn't see him being dropped for Farrell. I doubt Farrell would even have been next in if Beale or Dugan went down. Runciman is a talent and showed some great touches in his recent run on the wing when Morris was out.

Unlucky for Farrell. A good young talent. Hope he is fit and firing for 2015

Bad luck for Farrell, the Dragons could have done with him in their attempt to get into the 8.
