Tallis drops a bomb and leaves Farah to clean the mess

By Hayley Maher / Roar Pro

After listening to the Rush Hour on Triple M Sydney on Thursday night, I feel compelled to weigh in on the Robbie Farah and Gorden Tallis feud.

Some comments Tallis made have angered me – he seems to have a complete lack of sympathy for Farah.

I really don’t think Tallis understands – or maybe he doesn’t care to understand – what this has done to the Tigers captain.

I’ve heard the interview where Tallis felt his integrity was being questioned. But he wasn’t backed into a corner, and I don’t see how he could feel like the only way around it was to name and shame Farah.

Being someone who “says it how it is” or “is an honest man” does not excuse repeating something that was said in confidence.

Tallis was one of my most hated players when he was playing. I then began to like him in the media, but now I have now lost all respect for him.

On the Rush Hour, Tallis said he he had got over the situation the day it occurred. Of course it was easy for him to move on – he dropped a bombshell and has left Farah to clean up the mess.

Tallis is also fuelling the fire by being critical of the way Farah has dealt with the situation. Yes, there are some things Farah could have done better, but if Tallis thinks he was ever going to get an interview from after making their private conversation public, he was dreaming.

The people advising Farah don’t have his best interests at heart. The club are in damage control and doing whatever they can to take the heat off themselves. Unfortunately for Farah, that means the heat is all on him.

Tallis can justify his actions all he wants but the fact is he threw someone under a bus to benefit himself.

Tallis ended by saying that Farah can call him anytime. My message to Farah would be, don’t bother. Tallis can’t see that he’s done anything wrong and there is no way he would ever apologise for what he’s done.

Robbie has already had problems with fox sports in the past...claiming that matty johns ambushed him for asking a real question....and btw ive read multiple other articles and heard multiple other people on radio and tv including former players stating it was "senior players" at the tigers who wanted to get rid of Mick Potter. im sorry but when you have a team full of kids with less then 20 games to their name...the senior players would have to be Robbie Farah, Keith Galloway, Liam Fulton etc....now nothing against Keith or Liam, but i dont think you oust a leader without the most powerful player at the club. wether Gorden Tallis is a Journolist, or a Pundit or as some of you think a big mouthed queenslander, least he actually spoke his mind and not this stupid bloody double speak they are all doing. im sorry but having Paul Kent come on 360 this week saying i know of multiple teams cheating the cap and how they do it...oh but im not gunna say anything about it....all that does it try big note himself.

I find it amazing that so many of you guys seem to know it all. I don't know even half of it but my thoughts are ..... Gordon Tallis should not have named Farrah .... it was a private confidence. Farrah might well have thought that Potter was struggling 15 months ago, that does not mean that he didn't support him. I have seen no evidence this season that Farrah does not support Potter. Yes, Farrah should have fessed up and admitted the statement, then explained that his opinion has changed. The entire Wests/Tigers board should be kicked out the door with the club to be run by a NRL appointed administrator and the CEO until the entire joint venture issue is sorted and a new board is then elected.

It was a low an cowardly act from Tallis. He wanted to protect his integrity. The same integrity he had when he walked out of the dragons despite having a binding contract.

News Ltd journalist Dean Ritchie said that Robbie Farah & CEO Grant Mayer did NOT leak details of the scheduled board meeting to sack Mick Potter following the Dragons game. As a Tigers fan I wish the Club would flush out & eradicate the Club officials leaking highly confidential information. When parasites in power & the media get together only bad things will happen. Go Tigers! Source : DEAN RITCHIE THE DAILY TELEGRAPH AUGUST 06, 2014 12:00AM- (Website) Quote "DEAR Robbie, Don’t blame your boss for this horrible mess at Concord. You allegedly know who leaked the original story about Wests Tigers coach Mick Potter’s impending demise to the media. Sorry Robbie, but you don’t know. Only I know, because I broke the story. It was a piece in The Sunday Telegraph on July 27 revealing a special board meeting had a recommendation to sack Potter. ......" Wests Tigers chief executive Grant Mayer has been accused, but that is wrong. Mayer’s accusers are only guessing." http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/nrl/dean-ritchie-open-letter-to-robbie-farah-stop-playing-the-blame-game-for-sorry-mess-at-wests-tigers/story-fni3fh9n-1227014527091

I'm still confused, at what point was Gordy backed into a corner? Was it when ayoub rang triple m on the 27th or when he blurted it out on triple m on the 25th? Can someone please explain that one to me?

Tallis wasn't backed into a corner. Ayoub very gently asked who his sources were and he blurted it out. However it's strange that Ayoub would even ask for the source so either Farah didn't tell Ayoub about the 'Potter can't coach comment' or Ayoub was trying to goad Tallis into revealing the comment. Either way Tallis only did to Farah what farah had done to Potter. As for being left to clean up the mess, it would have been cleared up a fortnight ago if Farah had acted with a bit more integrity and taken some responsibility instead of blaming everyone else, lying and trying to dodge accountability. He would have saved the club, the coach, his young teammates and most of all himself a lot of grief in the process. Farah has made some very poor decisions in how he has handled this that bring his leadership credentials into question.

This interview was simply designed to give Robbie a platform to inflame further drama = more viewers next week. It served its purpose. As dj said...Gould could have pressed Farah on the big questions on everybody's lips..but he didn't. Wouldn't be surprised if we got the Gordy interview next week. I hope Tallis just takes it on the chin and we can start talking footy again.

Farah is a spoilt brat. Always crying about something or someone. Chip on shoulder. That he went around behind his coach's back bagging him to Gorden Tallis proves that he is a back-stabbing spoilt brat who can't be trusted. We'd all be better off if Farah went to French rugby.

Roach's attack is just a case of sour grapes. He's a regular on the Fox league shows and, like Paul Kent, would have been squealing because Robbie decided to only appear on the rival network show. As far as Tallis is concerned, he may well be a lovely chap, but he comes across as an intellectually challenged, opinionated bully. I know people who have witnessed his slime-ball behaviour in public back when he was playing.

So he complains about being left out to dry but then goes ahead and does exactly the same thing to the CEO. As for the questioning regarding Tim Sheens being sacked, I would have liked Gould to press him on this issue as Sheens' comments after he was sacked insinuated that it was a player led revolt. Gould is the GM of a rival Sydney club and even club great blocker roach came out damning the fact that he was the interviewer.

Ah Johnnyball, sweet liniment, the perfume of the gods. Seems a lot of people are drinking it, using it as a mixer or on their weet bix. The word count on this issue must be nearing the million mark but it took until 12.47 pm on August 8th for Johnnyball to deliver the best lines to date. Queen Bee complex, with matching colours I presume, say sit all. 10/10 J

I'm with you Hayley, there are probably hundreds of these stories across the NRL where current players could be in strife for venting frustrations to former players. The only difference is Tallis reported it and became the only person in the NRL more petulant than Des Hasler.
