The season could not have started any trickier for Newcastle United as they play host to reigning English Premier League champions Manchester City at St James Park. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 1:00am (AEST) on Monday morning.

This game has the potential to go either way, but it is hard to look past the 2013/14 champions, who will look to improve on their hapless performance at the Community Shield.

Both clubs have added a fair few names to their roster, and those new faces will be looking to make their mark from day one.

For the visitors, Pellegrini has stated that Frank Lampard and Sergio Aguero are back at training and could feature during this match, while due to Eliaquim Mangala’s late inclusion, he might have to wait a week or so before making his Manchester City debut.

New faces such as Bacary Sagna, Fernando, Willy Caballero, and Bruno Zuculini are also ones who could make their first appearance in Manchester blue against Newcastle.

For the home side, Alan Pardew will possibly be without new acquisition Siem De Jong who is battling a calf injury, while Cheick Tioté is another Newcastle player who is certain to miss this fixture, due to ongoing fitness issues.

Pardew will be hoping to get his other new signings: Remy Cabella, Facundo Ferreyra, Daryl Janmaat, Ayoze Pérez, Jack Colback featuring in this fixture.

Prediction:
City will win this easily, 3-1.
