[VIDEO] Penrith Panthers vs North Queensland Cowboys: NRL highlights, blog, scores

By John Davidson / Roar Guru

MATCH RESULT:

The Penrith Panthers have secured a thrilling one point victory over the North Queensland Cowboys on Monday night.

Matt Moylan was again the hero for the Panthers nailing a field goal in the 78th minute.

More injury concerns for Penrith with James Segeyaro limping off with an ankle injury. With the side already boasting a big injury list, they could ill-afford to lose their star hooker with just three rounds remaining in the season.

FINAL SCORE:
Panthers 23
Cowboys 22

MATCH PREVIEW:

Third plays sixth in this blockbuster clash at Sportingbet Stadium when the Penrith Panthers meet the North Queensland Cowboys. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 7:00pm (AEST).

Both sides are in red-hot form and gunning for a top-four spot come finals time. This match shapes to be cracker.

The Panthers have been the surprise packet of the NRL season so far. No one, probably not even Penrith management themselves, would have picked the mountain men to be two points off top spot at the business end of the year.

The Panthers have endured a horrible injury toll, and will be without the likes of Peter Wallace and Brent Kite tonight, but this hasn’t stopped their momentum. Their largely no-name side is bucking expectations and comes into this one off the back of wins over the Dragons and Bulldogs.

Penrith has a young squad, led brilliantly by their dynamic hooker James Segeyarp, and are playing without fear.

On the other side of the field, the Cowboys boast vast experience and big stars.

Johnathan Thurston, Matt Scott, Ashton Sims, Tariq Sims, Kane Linnett and Antonio Winterstein are all internationals, while Glenn Hall has won a grand final, and both Robert Lui and Ray Thompson have many NRL games behind them.

Last weekend North Queensland whipped the Tigers 64-6 and they have won their past four matches in a row. The Cowboys are flying at the right time of the year and while they will be missing stars in front-rower James Tamou and outside back Brent Tate, it should not slow them down.

These two teams are evenly matched and rely heavily on their playmakers, Jamie Soward and Thurston, and their young fullbacks, Matt Moylan and Michael Morgan, to get them firing. It could come down to who wins the forward battle.

Despite being away from home, the Cowboys might edge this one, but they’re won’t be much in it.

Catch all the action on The Roar from 7.00pm (AEST).

Also Soward submits in a tackle he falls to the ground before a cow player lays a hand on him which is a penalty to the cows, he does this to attempt a quick play of the ball though through his actions should make it a dominant tackle by the cows.

Your kidding, that'l do me, a Jamie Soward flop and the Refs were letting it go, Idris is there complaining to the Ref and hasn't noticed that Soward actually played the ball, though Idris didn't care because he knew that he could milk the penalty because he was playing the Cows in Sydney, Morgan plays at the ball because Idris didn't want it because if he touched it he wouldn't gain his penalty, though time is passing and the Ref isn't blowing the whistle Idris get worried that Morgan is going to come up with the ball here so at the last minute he disrupts Morgans attempt to gain the ball, ball is knocked on, the Refs need to make a descision, Idris claims to the Ref to give Wright 5 in the bin, though there first decision was to play on? and the Ref decides to play Idris the third Ref on the fields ruling. Another Cows playing in Sydney Magic Moment ... watch it again Sam!

Week by week, I'm becoming more convinced than ever that the Panthers - and NSW in the not-too-distant future - have found their very own version of Darren Lockyer. This bloke has natural footballing appreciation, high athletic ability and plays with all the time in the world. And, like the great Lockyer, he does all this with that lofty, unruffled air that very few possess. Oh, and it's long since time that all those Soward haters out there put down their pitchforks and give the man a wrap. He's playing better than either last year's or this year's NSW half-backs.

Ouch, mate, u hit the nail on the head. Ricky is not a motivator of men. He is clearly a destroyer of motivation.

Where are the Panthers on the ladder? How many current SOO players do they have, Ricky?

All the ball boys should go on strike ! It's the refs fault for not controlling the game at fast pace

They did play well on an extremely ordinary night in Sydney. Actually it's been a very ordinary 48 hours with this weather. Cows will win their last couple and let's see. Anyone but Manly

I kinda think Moylans complexion would go nicely with red, white and blue.

So well done Penrith for the win.. But I think the Cowbies played well. Obviously we won't win the premiership in the forseeable future, they will at least have a go. If given a chance.

Still give Penrith no hope of winning the comp but that was a gutsy win....hopefully segeyaro is ok - his their best player and they'll need him come finals time. Considering the conditions, that was an entertaining match.

Important win for Penrith, they move into third position on the ladder. But it's all about Segeyaro, if he's out for a long period then Penrith are gone in my opinion. The hooker so influential.
