MATCH RESULT:

A game of two halves at Pirtek Stadium on Friday night has seen the Parramatta Eels knock off the league leading Manly Sea Eagles 22-12.

FINAL SCORE:
Eels – 22
Sea Eagles – 12

MATCH PREVIEW:

The Parramatta Eels are looking to bounce back from a controversial loss last week against a Manly Sea Eagles side stepping ever closer to the minor premiership. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:30pm (AEST).

Parramatta’s last-start loss to the Bulldogs will add some fire to the bellies of many Eels players and fans.

Manly on the other hand are coming off an unconvincing win on the road against the Titans.

While getting away with the win, the Sea Eagles were unconvincing and when combined with their poor performance at the SCG a week earlier, coach Geoff Toovey will be hoping for a return to form.

For Parramatta, Junior Paulo has been named to replace fan favourite Fuifui Moimoi, which saw the energetic front rower leave training early.

Pauli Pauli also drops out of the team with Peni Terepo making a return from a knee injury.

For the visitors, Steve Matai returns to the centres, with Cheyse Blair dropping out of the side.

Much has been made in previous weeks of the magnificent and electric fullbacks in the game.

This match will be no different with Jarryd Hayne going up against Brett Stewart.

While Stewart does not have the flashy tag that many have placed on Hayne, it is Stewart’s combinations with his halves that are so damaging.

Jarryd Hayne on the other hand has been one of the most exciting and successful players this season for the blue and gold. A continued good run in form could prove costly for Manly.

Expect a big game from both Chris Sandow and Jarryd Hayne, while for Manly look for Daly Cherry-Evans and Kieran Foran to guide the side around the park in front of what will be a big, vocal crowd at Pirtek Stadium for Parramatta’s last home game of the season.

Prediction:
Parramatta by 2.

I really doubt Manly's chances of making the Grand Final. I'm a fan, but I think sides have started to work out how to beat them. You just bustle them. The Bulldogs did it, Souths did it, and last night Parramatta did it in the second half. Manly's forwards just haven't got the power to match the big packs, especially when they put on the aggression. Once domination has been conceded the brilliant Manly backline get bustled and start to lose their timing. This time of year the big guns are stepping it up. I don't know if Manly's got much more to give. Everyone is hesitant to write them off, but it will need something impressive against the Panthers next week to convince me they haven't lost their mojo.

What? He ran behind his own player which meant the defender couldn't actually be moving forward (or diagonally) to make the tackle and had to move sideways only to get his body in line with Sandow, given no defender tackles effectively moving sideways he was denied the opportunity to make an effective tackle by the obstruction from the decoy runner. The video ref decision was correct.

Possible 8 point try you were referring to was Tafua channeling his inner Billy Slater ? 8 point try's are given to a team when they score then a something happens like. A player puts the ball down then say comes over the top and drops the knees in. Technically it was before scoring but I might check the rules later today

The disallowed try to Sandow was a disgrace. The vidiots Patten and Clark should be sacked straight away. They've done this a number of times this year - a law unto themselves. Disgraceful.

The Rabbits haven't forgotten what the Dog's did to them in 2012, we are still hurting from that one at the ANZ stadium when the Dog's put us out and that is the thing that will come back to haunt the Dog's this year and not only next Thursday when the Rabbits will win it by at least 30+ and it will be a thrashing that Manly got just a few weeks ago from The Rabbits. The Dog's winning against the Wests/Tigers on Thursday was a picnic compared to what a thrashing they will get next Thursday. It will not be all the way with LBJ as they use to say 'It will be All The Way with the RABBITS. lol

No, however a crusher isn't necessarily something that requires a concussion check (the issue with the crusher is not the head contact, but that the neck is being compressed), Hasson seemed dazed when he got up so maybe he caught a knock on the way down.

That was the best thing that happened to Parra because it motivated them and after the disallowed Sandow try Parra just stepped up 5 gears and were in 5th gear all the way to the finish. But that was a bad decision by the ref as Sandow was way off the player running through and the Manly defence had a clear and an unobstructed view and every chance of tackling Sandow 'there was NO obstruction' as he stepped and went through them and on top of all that NONE OF THE MANLY PLAYERS UTTRED A WORD and you know how much of a winger and lip Lyon can give out or question every decision together with all the other Manly players 'if god forbid' they have a decision made against them, they continually slowed the game down in the first half by questioning the referee at crucial Parra attaching stages. Great performance by Parra and Hayne is a genius and what a class player and I say this when I'm a Souths supporter, this win by Parra was great for Souths winning the minor premiership [and tough luck to them bookies who already paid out on Manly winning it, they can afford it, lol] on top of the Grand Final. Go the Rabbits you GOOD THINGS.

Serious question after watching the replay. When DCE went down complaining of contact to the head and it was reviewed, shouldn't he have had to come off the field under the concussion rules? Later when Hasson stayed down and was deemed to have been collected by a crusher tackle he was automatically sent off under the concussion rules. Is there a rule that a player can only go off under the concussion rules if they are awarded a penalty?

Agree Planko. What are your thoughts on the possible 8 point try?

Johnno I'd take a look at your own comments. No foul play recorded, however somehow DCE had his neck crushed. Not sure how you put those two together, but I'll just agree to disagree.

Well, no actually. Just because no foul play was recorded doesn't mean a smack to the head and your neck being crushed isn't going to hurt. You come out with some really stupid comments

Are you on Peptides, Battery Acid or both ? Manlys first try was due to some rubbish penalty for holding down 3 tackles before, which they did all game on and off . If Sandow scored that try for Melbourne Souths Brisbane or yourselves it wouldn't have just been awarded they would have found a way to make it an eight point try. 2 other Parramatta tries went upstairs for no reason other for what looked like a fishing exercise to see if they could be disallowed. Cherry Evans auditions for an Italian soccer team but his performance just wasn't right but we still have to look at what is a legal tackle 5 times to allow Manly to get their breath back . Ben Smith goes on report for an average tackle while Hayne gets penalised for shouting at the ref while Stewart and Lyon do the same and nothing occurs. The refereeing was crap but it didn't do Parramatta any favours .Manly lost like they did against Souths as when push come to shove they went missing.

Great game Parra, haven't seen a performance like that in ages. BA is doing a great job taking the club forward after the last few years.

There was no penalty given to Manly after 5 repeats of the tackle on DCE. If they cant find anything in the tackle he was obviously diving.
