The tough run home continues for the North Queensland Cowboys as they face premiership favourites the South Sydney Rabbitohs away from home. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:30pm (AEST).
It’s a short turnaround for the Cowboys following Monday night’s one-point defeat to the Panthers.
Another defeat tonight could derail another season full of promise.
The Cowboys were well in contention for a place inside the top four before their loss to the Panthers.
Now they find themselves on the cusp of the top eight and need to cause an upset tonight to keep finals football on the agenda.
South Sydney have proved daunting opposition over the past fortnight, securing dominant victories over Brisbane and Manly to be well in the running for the minor premiership.
Greg Inglis is at the peak of his powers and will look to continue his rich vein of form against the Cowboys.
If the Cowboys do turn up with their best football, tonight’s contest has the potential to be one of the games of the season.
Hopefully the wet weather that has plagued Sydney over the past few days is absent. The Cowboys and Rabbitohs are two of the NRL’s most entertaining sides to watch and a dry track should ensure some exciting football.
If the wet weather does persist however, one has to favour the Rabbitohs to seal victory.
Their forwards are making metres at will, with the Burgess brothers in particular enjoying a fine finish to the season.
While the Cowboys certainly have what it takes to cause a potential upset, the present form of the Rabbitohs bodes well for yet another victory for the Redfern club.
Rabbitohs by 6.

I'm not defending the Bunnies at all especially on Saturdays performance which was abysmal and if they want to be a top contenders for the crown then a performance like on Saturday is just not on, they were never in the game and they got thrashed by the Cowboys irrespective of Thurston's abilities in doing so. And if the Rabbits are fair dinkum from now on then the term "South Sydney have proved daunting opposition over the past fortnight" could be just for that fortnight when they played Manly and Brisbane and they will fall in a heap like they do every year.

the point was Manly WERE leading for at least half the game , how long did the Bunnies lead on Saturday???

Obviously a one eyed supporter. No way a team can have the line speed the cowboys have without being off side. At least you aren't celebrating an injury though. What sort of pathetic human being would do that. Only a troll behind a keyboard.. Got to love technology and the sort of people it's brought out.

So you agree with the refs not sending the cowboys try to be reviewed and Keary's no try? 1. Learn the rules 2. Get your eyes checked

And its also the Cowboys best game that they will play all year, Souths needed to be taught a lesson before the finals that they can't just win games in the forwards and barge there way over each game, this will wake them up and make them a better team irrespective if Reynolds is playing or not, but Reynolds is a great loss especially with his goal kicking which I don't know who will kick now?

xavialonso, who do you support? Fans are fans and players are players reactions do happen after a heated match or when a referee makes a few bad decisions and has no clue what is happening in the game and because of their decisions in crucial parts of the game giving the game to the other team, you wait until the playoffs and you will see how the refs will be controversial and the game winners as they usually are. Schuey, you must be a real mongrel to make a comment like that about Reynolds.

Lote says a few days ago not to believe all the hype. Looks like the team are taking his advice on board and not believing either. Top stuff Lote :p

Cheers cows! Bunnies sit second. Could be third after Monday. Manly top two all but assured and still in first. Good to see wrestle mania finish last tonight....despite refs helping out to get bunnies back into it

I don't support Souths. I can't stand them and their fans. But at least they didn't embarrass themselves like Manly did against Parramatta on Friday. They were leading at half time 12-0, and got blown away during the second forty. I wouldn't be too worried about Souths apart from injuries, but its panic stations for Manly. Oh, btw I hate Manly players and their nutjob fans more than Souths (apart from Foran who is the only likeable Manly player).

Yep. Well I said that Souths had played their best game for this year against Manly a few weeks ago. I still stand by that. Great game by the Cows. Their forwards really stood up and the Souths pack blinked.

That is the best the Cows have played in a very long time. Thurston is unbelievable , Taumalolo is awesome and My favourite Matt Scott was well ahead of Burgess.. Do I think we will win a Grand Final in 2014 ? No , I do not think we are quite there yet. But the fact that we CAN win has made this season very sweet. Who knows a few Refs decisions might go our way in the finals this year.. If we cop any more howlers this year NQ secedes.from Australia.

Doubt the alarm bells will be ringing. The loss will take a bit of pressure off now. The Rabbits get the loss out of the way, regroup before the semis and focus on winning 5 straight games.

After Manly's loss, I thought Souths would be playing like men possessed trying to secure the minor premiership. The Cowboys are no pushovers though Souths fans have seen this before. I wonder if the Alarm bells are sounding yet.
