Even though St.Pauli ultimately lost a high-scoring affair, Jackson Irvine was a standout, as well as scoring a late goal.
Barcelona great Guillermo Amor has joined Adelaide United as the A-League club’s technical director.
Amor, who played 37 internationals for Spain, has signed a one-year contract with the Reds after a consultancy stint with his friend, Adelaide’s Spanish coach Josep Gombau.
Gombau’s friendship with Amor stretches back to their time as development coaches at Barcelona, where Amor made 311 La Liga appearances.
Amor has spent the past month observing the Reds’ training.
Gombau, who was Barcelona’s youth coach from 2003 to 2009, said securing Amor was a coup.
“The challenge is that in two, three years time to have a lot more South Australians playing the style we want to play,” Gombau said in a statement on Saturday.
Amor said Adelaide was trying to implement a Barcelona-based style.
“I have came here to learn and experience … but also bring experience to improve the football department and the club,” he said in a statement.
“From what I have seen, it is not a big difference between us and what Barcelona are doing.
“It is something similar and something I am use to. But I have liked what I have seen so far.”
