[VIDEO] Everton vs Chelsea: EPL highlights, scores, blog

By Jack O'Toole / Roar Guru

MATCH RESULT:

Chelsea make it three from three in what was an absolute goal-fest. Mourinho won’t be happy conceding three but a mix of some opportunistic play and poor defending saw Chelsea capitalise and punish Everton for their mistakes to the tune of six goals.

It was a 2-1 scoreline at halftime, but we saw an explosion in the second half as both sides seemed to be exchanging goals by the minute.

2-1, 3-1, 3-2, 4-2, 4-3, everytime Chelsea looked like they had sealed it, Everton come roaring back and answered back immediately through super sub and former Chelsea player Samuel Eto’o and Steven Naismith.

Superb finishes, sloppy defending, never say die attitude. This game had everything and if you were a neutral, you were in for a roller coaster of a game.

Chelsea were clinical and ruthless in front of goal and capitalised on every chance and half chance. They were quick, moved the ball with speed and had weapons all over the field. Cesc Fabregas was superb for the blues and controlled the tempo for Chelsea and dictated play with his brilliant passing. His on field relationship with Diego Costa is almost psychic.

The two have only been playing with each other for a month but it seems like years as their timing and understanding of each others movements is impeccable.

Mourinho will not be happy that his side conceded three goals but will take solace in the fact that his team has some serious firepower going forward and can score from almost anywhere.

You can’t help but feel sorry for Everton who despite having 62% of possession somehow ended up conceding six goals and four in the second half.

The scoreline does not do the Toffees justice as they looked very dangerous in their own right but too many mistakes at critical moments undid all their good attacking work.

A deflection, a horrible pass and two failed offside traps cost Everton four goals.

The Toffees were good today and the scoreline would definitely not have reflected that but once again lapses of concentration and moments of stupidity have cost them yet again.

The Toffees have some nice players and a great understanding of their managers philosophy but Martinez is going to have to figure out a way to ensure his side remains more disciplined throughout games as this is the third week in a row that lapses in concentration have cost them.

It was a great game for the neutral football fan as we were treated to an end to end, non stop, action packed goal-fest.

Both sides will have to do some major video analysis during the week but for now, Chelsea are three from three and sit atop of the English Premier League.

FULL TIME:
Everton 3
Chelsea 6

Could you have a worst debut. Your literally on the field for two minutes and you cost your team a goal by trying to backheel to your Centre Back with your very first touch in English football. He could be good but could not have gotten off to a worse start.

They play very attractive football and he's kind of revolutionised how to use wing backs. Mirallas and McGeady play as genuine wingers and Baines and Coleman basically play as wide midfielders. Interesting to see where Barkley will fit in cause on current form I would not be removing Naismith from that lineup, he was brilliant and is the centrepiece of their attack. Even as a neutral, it's been frustrating watching them repeatedly shoot themselves in the foot.

No problems Tom, after that it's going to be a long season for you watching these games. At times I think they can play Champions League and make the four but they make too many mistakes at the worst possible times.

It will be an interesting season, but it doesn't look too promising so far. At least there will be goals. But we've monkeyed the first three games and we've got some catching up to do.

On this performance, Everton will be a lot like Liverpool last season. The Moyes legacy of a solid and organised back four is becoming a thing of the past, but there will be more goals to try and offset that. Big worry for Everton will be if the likes of Mirallas, Lukaku and Barkley get injured. If their attacking options are out, then real trouble could set in, as Martinez does not ever set his team up to eke out results. Everton will be interesting to watch though.

92' - Samuel Eto'o almost grabs a second as he takes a shot from just outside the box. The ever present John Terry is able to close it down and block it as if he hadn't it may well have found the back of the net

89' - GOAL - Diego Costa seals the game. Muhammed Besic is on only 5 seconds and has already cost his team a goal. Besic tries to back heel it to his Centre Back in Jagielka. Drogba intercepts on the horrible pass and is one one with Distin. He backheels it in turn to a swooping Costa who has made a good run in from midfield. Costa rounds Tim Howard and puts it in the right hand corner grabbing his second of the game.

That's the match. That's an awful first touch by Besic. Bad luck Everton.

Everton under Martinez is a different beast to Everton under Moyes. Under Moyes, anything was a reasonable excuse as to why Everton didn't do well. Martinez is from the same school of thought as Brendan Rodgers, and Everton's performance is rather like ours last season - great in attack, poor in defence, and awesome to watch. Only thing I still hate is that every game Everton play, there is still a large fanbase that sings awful shit about Steven Gerrard.

86' - fifty/fifty challenge between Naismith and Ramires see's Ramires come off worse as Naimsith wins the ball but also receive studs to the foot from Naismith. Drogba is set to appear as Ramires is taken off for further treatment

82' - Everton won't let up. Fabregas receives a yellow after a lunging challenge on Coleman down the right. Everton have a mountian to climb but it's not over yet
