Clarke faces testing time with injury

Australia’s chief selector Rod Marsh is confident Michael Clarke will do everything he can to overcome his hamstring injury for next month’s Test series against Pakistan.

But Marsh says Clarke could be in doubt for the three-game series of one-dayers starting on October 7 in the UAE.

The two-Test series starts in Dubai on October 22, followed by the second Test in Abu Dhabi which begins on October 30.

Clarke, who has a history of hamstring trouble, broke down in the one-day match against Zimbabwe in Harare on August 31. The 33-year-old is now battling to prove his fitness for the Test series against Pakistan.

“No. Not confident,” Marsh told a media conference in Sydney on Monday.

“You can’t be confident about Michael.”

However Marsh added Clarke had proven to be a durable player over his 105-Test career.

“But he’s only missed one in over a hundred,” Marsh said.

“He’s got a great track record of getting up for Tests.

“I’m sure he’ll be right because there’s no more dedicated bloke in getting his rehab in than Michael.

“He will not want to miss any Test matches, even if that means he has to miss some one-dayers and I’m not suggesting that.

“Being named in the one-dayers, not only named but he’s captain, and he’ll try desperately to be ready for them.

“Whether or not he will be, I don’t know.”

Don't really care if Clarke can't play the ODIs, as long as he is right for the tests.
