Greater Sydney Rams vs Brisbane City: Preview, live stream

By The Roar / Editor

The Greater Sydney Rams will host Brisbane City at Pirtek Stadium in a game that is sure to be exciting. The action gets underway at 8:00pm (AEST).

While much of the talk from last week’s match against Queensland Country was about the crowd and the returning Quade Cooper, the latter only played 20 minutes and the former wasn’t on the field (until after the game).

City were impressive, both at set piece time (Country were without Greg Holmes), and having Cooper back should be the icing on the cake in their march towards the finals. With a full and healthy side City look like a team that could snatch an elusive victory from the undefeated Melbourne Rising.

Ahead of the Rams by five points on the table, they would expect to remain ahead after this weekend.
As for the Rams, it’s their time to stick up their hand for a finals spot. They’ve looked threatening at various times this season, and undoubtedly have one of the attacking weapons of the competition in Taqele Naiyaravoro.

But they haven’t been able to capitalise on opportunities when they’ve presented themselves. Their ladder position has suffered accordingly.

Losing winnable games now means they’re in a big scrap to make the finals against the other form team in the competition at the moment.

With a record of 0-5 and an unfavourable for and against of -128 the Sydney Stars have failed to impress at all this season. Not only that, the side sits on only two points so far but have the potential to score tries if they throw caution to the wind.

Look out for the flyhalf battle between Cooper and Ben Volvavola to be one of excitement. Openside flanker Chris Alcock should, given his potential, also be a threat if the Stars can get on the front foot.

It’ll be a tussle, and the Rams should be helped by the fact they’re at home, but Brisbane City should show too much desire, and take another step towards securing their spot in the top four.

Tip: Brisbane City by 15.

Just watched the game. Seven tries to four. 56-29. City seemed too backs oriented, isolated from the pack in attack. Rams rucking, and leg drive overwhelmed the City - WBs take note. Lineouts on both sides were horrible, especially City Rams: - scrum well, even with seven men - Vola outperformed QC, mainly because of their pack and perfect kick record - tryline defene was solid. Saved at least a couple. - Conversely, they capitalised almost all try scoring opportunities City, where do I start: - Scrum ok in places. But failed to capitalise with a one man advantage - Backs continued to outrun their support. Packs too, on more than one occassion - Defence not numbering up, no urgency - Pick/go looked good when used. Kerevi and Frisby good. QC above average, but can lift more. Pack: maybe Curtis. Maybe not. My MOTM Mafi, then Volavola Try #1 Rams: 2' Rams caught City with an overlap on the blindside in the redzone. Good work halves Try #2 Rams: 13' Rams caught City with an an unprotected ruck in the City redzone. This after two 2 turnovers, and one other run through another unprotected ruck Try #1 City: 15' Va’aulu goes from their 40m to half. Kerevi from half to Rams 40m. QC floats to Chris K in a gap for a 40m try Try #3 Rams: 21' City turnover. quickly moved to McKenzie wing, then inside/outs past QC Try #2 City: 29' Multiple raids via lineout / penalties, pick/go (take note WBS), backs. Finally Curtis runs through 3 defenders, one phase after a Kerevi run Try #4 Rams: 33' Rams centre with numbers wide, stepped in and ran passed Kerevi (pronounced ka-ra-vai by Bar TV). Flat defence Try #3 City: 42' Reds maul in redzone, then Short ball to Kerevi 10m out. Steps past, then runs through a few for the five Try #5 Rams: 45' Post scrum, City tries to exit their redzone with a run. stripped. Multi-phase attack in the City redzone, try by Rams centre Try #6 Rams. 51' Lineout penalty against City in redzone (tough call). Quick tap, try. Soft by City Try #7 Rams: 64' City fubars a lineout in the Rams 22m. Few phases after the Rams are on the other side. 5m quick tap try. Even softer Try #4 City: 78' With a two man advantage, Kerevi almost makes it to the tryline. Next phase Dave McD just manages to dot down between two defenders.

Yeah me too Rob. Every other game I was just happy to see some good footy regardless of the outcome but I'm pretty dissappointed tonight.

No yellow in the jerseys for any team is a great idea :)

Here's an idea for next year - no yellow cards. What a joke. The referees need to get a grip.

Easy to criticise the commentators, but they are enthusiastic. Good to hear.

They are shocking with names but it's a start. Rams are the only ones who have engaged a stream with commentary so onwards and upwards!
