Everton vs Aston Villa: EPL live scores, blog

Everton and Aston Villa will be eager to get their seasons back on track when they meet at Goodison Park in Matchday 8 of the English Premier League. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 1:00am (AEDT).

Having won just once this season, Everton have work to do if their are to finish anywhere near where they did last season, and after the international break, they’ll be looking to kick-start their season against a Villa side that haven’t won in a month.

Everton have won four and drawn three of the last seven meetings of the two sides, including a 2-1 win the last time the two sides met at Goodison.

While Everton will be without their Belgian striker Romalu Lukaku, stretched off in the Merseyside derby, Villa will be hoping their own Belgian, Christian Benteke, can return to his goal-scoring form in place of the injured Gabby Agbonlahor.

Everton will also be without Slyvain Distin, Seamus Coleman and Gerard Deulofeu, while the visitors should welcome back Socceroo Chris Herd and Joe Bennett.

Villa are hungry for points and they’ll be buoyed by Everton’s poor home-form, having taken just one point from three homes games this season.

But Everton will have taken a lot of positives from their last-start loss at Old Trafford. Expect them to take all three points against a Villa side on the slide.

Join The Roar Sunday morning at 1:00am (AEDT) for score live scores and coverage.

Well folks that's it from Goodison Park. Have Everton reinvigorated their season? And where to now for Villa? One things for sure is that Everton have recorded their first home win of the season in beating Villa at Goodison Park 3 nil. Villa never really got out of first gear and Paul Lambert and Roy Keane have work ahead of them to turn around this slump. Roberto Martinez will be happy with the result but even happier with the successful return of Ross Barkley and Seamus Coleman.

They really have turned it on, Villa on the other hand have been very poor.

Bit too easy. This looks like Everton from last season.

'76 And Everton get a third. Seamus Coleman puts away brilliant cross from Baines after some smart work from Osman. That's Baines' 14th assist in three seasons and Coleman's third goal of the season. You have to think there is no way back for Villa now. 3-0

'74 Howard forced to punch clear after a teasing Villa cross. Villa are having their best passage of play but they may have left their run too late. 2-0

'71 Cissokho is brought down by Naismith who earns a yellow card for the tackle that gifts Villa a free kick 10m out from the 18 yard box. It's a delightful ball into the area but it floats directly into Tim Howard's hands and Everton get another let off. 2-0

'69 Lukaku earns a free kick after showing his strength to get to a ball he really had no right to get to. Pienaar is over the ball... But it's Lukaku who hits the free kick straight into the wall 2-0

'65 and a substitution for Everton. Ross Barkley replaced by Steven Pienaar. Barkley has been superb in his return for the Toffee's. At times his touch was heavy but that's to be expected after a long lay off. His movement off the ball created trouble for Aston Villa's back four. 2-0

'59 The commentator has hit the nail on the head. Everything Everton does comes off, whereas Villa have struggled to get into any rhythm. Guzman nearly makes a mess of Osman's shot but cleans it up on the second attempt. 2-0

'56 Villa with their best chance of the game but it's called back after a push by Benteke on Alcaraz. That second goal from Everton has seemingly woken Villa. 2-0

If this game is any indication, the international break has done them good.

'48 Sorry about that, had some technical difficulties that have since been resolved. While I was out, Lukaku scored Everton's second goal ... a thunderbolt from the edge the box that Guzman really should have saved. And he very nearly did, but couldn't stop the ball rolling over the line. Everton 2 0 Aston Villa

This looks like a much better Everton team with Coleman and Barkely back.

'46 Welcome back for the second half. No changes from either side. Wonder if the half time talk has given Villa the motivation they need to get back into this game. 1-0

Good to see Ross get a run. Passing has been good. Coleman and Baines have been great. I'm not sure why Alcaraz is playing before Besic though. Also why is Osman on before McGeady, Gibson and Pieanaar?
