Pek Cowan re-signs with Western Force

By News / Wire

Wallabies prop Pek Cowan says his burning desire to see the Western Force taste long-overdue success was his major reason behind re-signing with the Super Rugby franchise for a further two years.

The Force were on track for a maiden finals berth last season but a loss to the Brumbies in the final round ruined those hopes.

Cowan’s hot form in Super ranks saw him return to the national set-up after a three-year hiatus, with the 28-year-old representing the Wallabies in Tests against France, New Zealand, South Africa and Argentina.

The 10-Test Wallaby was over the moon to earn another shot on the international stage, but now he wants to see the Force taste success.

“I’ve never wanted to leave this club until we’ve achieved something as a group,” said Cowan, who has been at the Force since its inception in 2006.

“Last year it felt like we almost got there but there’s definitely a feeling of having unfinished business.

“Falling at the final hurdle last year has definitely fuelled the guys moving forward.

“Last season was confirmation that what we’re doing is working and what we’re doing is right.

“It’s just a matter of ensuring that we’re just a little bit better across the board if we’re to take the next step in this competition.”

Cowan has returned from national duties and is in line for selection for the Perth Spirit’s National Rugby Championship grand final against Brisbane City on Saturday.

Its fantastic news, the playing group is largely unchanged and very settled. Pek is an absolute gentleman often down at the junior games on a Saturday morning cheering on his little one. Its great for Force rugby.

Nah. This is just a continuation of the western-centric reporting of the rugby media.

Good to see, but they shouldn't have allowed Longbottom to go. After the Reds, I can see Force getting second place in the Oz conference next year.

FOS agreed this has been happening for a while now trying any positive spin they can muster, I also believe that Hoopers selection as caption was a ploy to create more interest in Rugby ( youngest capt since whenever) not meant as a negative to Hooper ability but unfortunately his skills in that area have been sadly missing Just my thoughts

I don't think you have to wonder to much mate, that level of strategy is far beyond what we have seen from them so far.

I wonder if the ARU is directing the States to release all the media they can relating to resignings to try to provide some positive news in this annus horribilus for Australian rugby.
