Following their dismantling of crosstown rivals Melbourne City at the weekend, which featured a stunning hat trick from striker Besart Berisha, Melbourne Victory will be flying high heading into this clash against Perth Glory for a prized semi-final spot in Australia’s first ever nationwide knockout competition.

Perth’s most recent A-League encounter saw them comprehensively beaten by Adelaide United, however prior to this their form has been solid with imported striker Andy Keogh scoring four goals in just 2 matches – victories against Wellington and Brisbane.

This game could well be won in the final third, with the Victory boasting two of the nation’s most in-form and lethal strikers in Berisha and Archie Thompson, a veteran of ten A-League campaigns. Whilst Perth will be hoping Keough is able to equal the output of these seasoned stars.

Despite the reputation of cup competitions overseas, both sides seem keen to field full strength lineups and have a tilt at becoming the inaugural FFA Cup champions.

Victory coach Kevin Muscat stated this week that “From our perspective certainly it would be nice to win the inaugural FFA Cup.”

Following Wednesday’s game, Perth will be back in action on Saturday night when they host the Jets, while Victory have a five-day break before playing Wellington in Melbourne.

Prediction: Perth Glory 0-2 Melbourne Victory

Victory will be elated following their derby joy and should possess too many attacking stars for the Glory defence to handle.

Can the Glory bring their a-game to snatch the Victory?
