[VIDEO] Brisbane Roar vs Perth Glory highlights: A-League scores, blog

By James Anderson / Roar Guru

MATCH RESULT:

A result that neither team can complain about. Brisbane had far more possession, and perhaps should’ve won the match, if not for their lack of chances in the box.

The last ten minutes from Brisbane were fantastic, but not enough to secure the win.

For Perth, an early goal wasn’t enough, and for large portions of the match they were outplayed and outskilled, though they defended galliantly and therefore can’t complain with one point.

FINAL SCORE:
Brisbane 1
Perth 1

MATCH PREVIEW:

Perth Glory travel to Suncorp with a full squad this weekend as they look to extend their lead at the top of the table against a Brisbane Roar side fuelled from their off-field controversy. Join The Roar from 5:00pm (AEDST) for live scores and coverage.

It’s hard to bet against Perth in their current form, though away from home and against the Roar they don’t have the best record. Their season thus far has been flawless, but still critics would have trouble believing they can maintain their form, considering the years of failure that precedes them.

Tonight is the perfect test for the Glory, against a side who they’ve struggled against in the past and who, despite the off-field controversy, will always bring their best to the pitch.

If Perth can sustain their form against the Roar at Suncorp, and get the three points away from home, then they could very well be on the right path to a Premiership year.

And equally important tonight is a result for Brisbane, who will be desperate to get the past week behind them. But a change in coaching staff can often lift a team, as players must fight for the coach’s affections, and impress the new boss for a starting position.

And Frans Thijssen is no easy man to impress. With 14 caps for the Netherlands and over 200 appearances in the Eredivisie, the hard, creative midfielder comes to Brisbane with coaching experience in Holland’s second division, as well as four teams in the Middle East.

He will know how he wants his team to play, and hopefully by tonight, will have settled a starting XI that can challenge the current A-League leaders.

Petratos may not start in the midfield, as Lustica is more enticing on first glance. The back four is fairly settled, pending the left-back replacement for Stefanutto, who is out for up to 6six weeks with a groin injury.

It will be an exciting encounter and one that should provide lots of attack from both sides, though I predict that Glory will pinch this one from Brisbane at home.

Tip: Perth Glory 2-1 Brisbane Roar.

Thanks for the match coverage James - sounds like there were some positive signs for the Roar but still a bit to work on. Enjoy your evening.

Fantastic end to the match. Nichols has the last say, with a shot from well outside the area, but his effort flies well over the crossbar and into the stands. Perth Glory 1-1 Brisbane Roar Full Time'

De Silva gies possession away for Perth, and Brisbane are on the ball again. Risdon cool in possession to skip around Brown, who was in on him very quickly, but Perth lose possession cheaply once more. 3 mins extra time. Freekick on right wing for Brisbane Perth Glory 1-1 Brisbane Roar 90'

Brisbane continue to attack. Kurtishi finds space on the left, and swings in a ball behind Perth's defence, but Henrique was too slow at the back post, and could only tickle the ball over the touchline. Perth Glory 1-1 Brisbane Roar 88'

I think it was Griffiths who gave up the ball in midfield, and Corey Brown intelligently surged forward, finding Henrique in behind, who went around Jamieson and slotted the ball into the bottom right corner. A deserved goal to equal the scores. Perth Glory 1-1 Brisbane Roar 87'

Keogh shot from left wing too direct - Young saves easily. Brisbane back in possession, and still happy to keep the ball at the back until an option shows itself further forward. Perth Glory 1-0 Brisbane Roar 85'

Lustica breaks down the right, and cut the ball back, but it was the wrong option, as Henrique arrived too late to get in front of the dependable Griffiths. Perth Glory 1-0 Brisbane Roar 84'

Broich wriggles away from three players, but couldn't beat the fourth. Perth attack quickly and lose the ball quickly, and Brisbane are now back in possession. Perth Glory 1-0 Brisbane Roar 82'

Matt McKay breaks down the left, but pulls the ball back, once again allowing Perth to get back in position. De Silva has started to find some rhythm again after a peripheral patch. Shot from outside the area ripples the side netting. Perth Glory 1-0 Brisbane Roar 78'

Kofi Danning remains on the bench for Brisbane. Not where we like to say such an attacking player, especially when The Roar are losing at this stage of the match. Brisbane continue to push with plenty of possession. Perth Glory 1-0 Brisbane Roar 76'

Fantastic pass from Garcia opens up the middle of the park for Harold, who ran at the Brisbane defence with pace. He weaved one way, but couldn't keep the ball as he looked to beat two defenders. Kurtishi ready to come on. Perth Glory 1-0 Brisbane Roar 74'
