Sea Eagles set to sack Tetevano

By News / Wire

Manly are set to ditch plans to sign prop Zane Tetevano after he pleaded guilty in court in Newcastle to eight of 11 assault charges.

The Sea Eagles had offered Tetevano a one-year contract last month, but the agreement had yet to be signed off by the NRL.

The 24-year-old was axed by the Knights last May after pleading guilty to smashing a taxi windscreen.

Tetevano had been training with Manly since the start of November but was suspended from all club duties with immediate effect on Friday.

The Cook Islands international appeared before Newcastle Local Court on Friday in relation to a series of late-night attacks on his former girlfriend and her property.

Tetevano pleaded guilty to charges including assault occasioning actual bodily harm; destroying property, common assault and stalking with intention to inflict fear or physical harm.

He will be sentenced on March 5, 2015.

A two-year apprehended violence order was also issued to prevent him contacting his former partner.

“The player was signed by the club in good faith,” a Manly statement said.

“However the details of previous incidents have now been fully disclosed in a court of law.

“His position at the club will now be reviewed internally before making any further comment.”

I said I was aware of the incident not the charges and as for being a gullible twat the information turned out to be correct didn't it? As for not being signed to the manly club it says on the official manly website that he had signed on for one year. You obviously have your opinion and your entitled to it and I'm not going to waste my time continuing with this conversation as you had to resort to childish name calling because someone doesn't agree with your opion I do not believe you possess the intelligence to have a civil conversation.

as I don't work at manly I am only going off what the media have reported which said he had signed on at manly for a one year deal. As for the assaults I knew about them months ago so I fail to see how the people at manly were not aware.

Manly signed an agreement of intent NOT a contract. They were not privy to the actual charges as stipulated in the police report & therefore had to wait for the hearing before they knew exactly what charges he was facing. As a result the agreement of intent has been withdrawn! Do you really wanna get into the intricacies of contracts & agreements signed with me?? Stick to commenting on your grub team & leave the team you obviously envy alone!

I think assaulting your girlfriend or ex-girlfriend repeatedly is more than a misdemeanour. Manly had already signed off on the contract it was the nrl who had not yet signed off.

Thanks for the tip off EagleJ, I was about to race up out of the line. Who to replace him with. I see the Dogs picked up Kafusi, good excuse for Manly to snare Nev Costigan.

Manly never said they didn't know about his misdemeanor or about the court case! They waited to find out what the charges were before they signed off on the contract

love how manly is playing dumb like they didn't know anything about the incident they were just hoping it wouldn't get out into the mainstream media and try and sweep it under the rug.
