[VIDEO] Melbourne Stars vs Sydney Sixers: Big Bash League scores, blog

By TheSportsFreak / Roar Guru

Tonight’s Big Bash League sees the Melbourne Stars get their big guns back against the Sydney Sixers at the MCG. Join The Roar for live scores and a call of the action from 7:00pm AEDT.

It’s been a mixed tournament for both sides, but the results have been the opposite for the two sides.

Melbourne got off to a shocking start, with three losses heralding the arrival of star import Kevin Pietersen. Without Pietersen over the New Year, however, the Stars finally got their season on track with a win over cross-town rivals Melbourne Renegades.

The addition of Pietersen should add yet more firepower to their stacked line-up which has so far failed to fire, epitomised in the talented Glenn Maxwell leaving the ball on his stumps in his last effort at the crease.

Maxwell and captain Cameron White will both be keen to get amongst the runs this evening, if they are to press their claims for a World Cup spot for Australia. It hasn’t been a horrible tournament for White, but you fancy he needs a few big scores to press his claim for a national spot.

The Sixers have had the opposite fortune of the Stars. After losing their first game, they have won their last three on the trot to sit second behind the undefeated Adelaide Strikers.

Roar expert Freddie Wilde dissected the Sixers’ strategy on The Roar a week ago, pointing to the heavy reliance on Nic Maddinson and Michael Lumb at the top of the order. If those two get going tonight, then once again they should be hard to beat.

But if the Stars bowlers perform as well as they did against the Renegades, the Sixers could be in for another low score, just like against the Scorchers when they were bowled out for less than 100.

This should be a cracking clash, with two of the glamour sides of the Big Bash League clashing at the biggest ground in Australia.

MATCH WRAP-UP Thanks for joining us tonight, it was truly a thriller! The sixers started off very strongly, with an innings break score of 6/150. A touch score to match, but the Stars matched it. We all thought it was all over on the last 10 minutes of the normal part of the game, but the Stars suprised us by making it a draw and into the super over. The Stars basically won the game in their super over, setting an almost impossible feat of 20 runs in 1 over. As expected, they prevailed and won easily after that amazing super over. A great win by the Melbourne Stars here tonight. Thanks for joining me here tonight, and dont forget to tune in at 7:00pm AEDT for the big match between Adelaide Strikers and Perth Scorchers at the Adelaide Oval. Thanks, Brandon, The Roar.

What was Henriques thinking giving Lee the super over after he had already conceded 15 off his last over to get the Stars back in the contest. Moie should have taken the super over himself. At least he has pace variations that could fool the batsman. Lee has long been overated as a limited overs bowler. let alone a death bowler. Time to retire. What a class act James Faulkner is in short format cricket. Won the game single handed. Is a must for the world cup.
