Aggressive captaincy from both teams, an equally attacking Australian batting display and some really poor bowling from India set up a potentially exciting final day’s play in the fourth Test match. You can follow the live scores of the fifth day of the fourth Test from the SCG starting at 10:30am (AEDT).

After launching an attack that not many could have expected, the Australian team has given themselves a great chance to pull off a result out of this match.

The game looked to be meandering towards a draw when R Ashwin and Bhuvneshwar Kumar were holding fort for India.

But the Joe Burns blitzkrieg along with another commanding innings from Steve Smith has given the team a sizeable lead. Not many might have seen this side of Burns’ play that he demonstrated today.

Earlier, with his sixth consecutive half century, Chris Rogers became a joint Australian record holder and his innings at the top of the order set the platform up for the carnage to follow later.

With weather expected to play a role on the last day it remains to be seen how soon will Smith declare the innings. A target of 350 runs may just be enough on a pitch of this nature, but the other way to look at it is that Smith will want to bat India out of the game.

The pitch has shown enough turn and bounce to make Nathan Lyon a major factor in the match.

But the Indians have in their ranks Virat Kohli, who chases down totals like a man possessed. With four centuries already under his belt in this series, the Indian captain will want to end with an encore.

A target of this might has never been chased down before, but if the Indian captain gets going, it could make the match interesting.

Under his captaincy the side has been a lot more aggressive than what it used to be previously. Virat will however need support from the likes of Murali Vijay, Ajinkya Rahane et al if they are to have hopes of pushing for a win.

Mitchell Starc has made an impressive comeback into the side and will be important with the new ball. So will be the indefatigable Ryan Harris.

But looking at the pitch, and how the series has panned out till now, one just gets the feeling that it could well be Lyon’s day.
