Mitchell Marsh makes successful return

By News / Wire

Mitchell Marsh has made a successful return to cricket with Sydney grade side Western Suburbs on Saturday.

Sidelined with a hamstring complaint since Australia’s second Test victory over India in Brisbane in mid-December, Marsh hit 38 off 46 balls and then took 2-14 off four overs as he continued his recovery ahead of the World Cup.

Marsh was easily the star for Wests, who managed just 9-128 in their allotted 50 overs in their first-grade clash.

Eastern Suburbs chased down the target at Pratten Park within 23 overs for the loss of just two wickets.

The 23-year-old allrounder was named in Australia’s 15-man World Cup squad earlier this month, despite his injury worries.

He said he was hoping to be included in the Australian side for Monday’s ODI clash with India at the SCG.

“It has taken a bit longer than I would have liked but with the summer that we have, we have had the opportunity to take it a bit longer and get it right,” Marsh said.

Australia host England at the MCG on February 14 in their World Cup opener.

Yes it is, especially when ordered by CA. Lots of them do it, especially when the Big Bash is on. Khawaja played for Randwick Petersham right at the start of BBL before he got injured. The players that come from interstate to play for other BBL teams always go and play grade in Sydney and I assume they do the same in the other states.

Don't understand why is he playing Sydney Grade cricket. Why would he not play for his club in WA?

Yes Craig, you want Maxwell and your namesake out. We know. Mitch Marsh is unlikely to start.

Mitch Marsh is now a big chance to play a part in the world cup with his successful return from a hammie injury. I am tipping the powerful West Aussie all rounder to star at the ODI showpiece.
