Jack Hale makes men look like boys in open-age race

By Isaac Nowroozi / Roar Guru

Sixteen year old schoolboy sprinter Jack HaleHale clocked an outstanding time of 10.50 seconds with a 0.1m per second tailwind, clearing second placed Jacob Despard by a solid .40 seconds.

The sixteen year old said he was happy with his time, and is looking forward to his challenge when he travels to Newcastle next week for the Hunter Track Classic.

“I’m really happy with it and really keen to get into Newcastle next week,” he said.

In September of last year, Hale made headlines when he broke the national hundred-metre record with a time of 10.44 seconds.

Then, in October, Australia’s fastest kid broke his own record by 0.02 seconds, setting the current best time at 10.42 seconds.

Hale clocked an incredible time of 10.13 seconds when he won gold in the All School Track and Field Championships last month, however his time would not replace the current record time due to the aid of an illegal tailwind.

Hale is as multi-talented as he is fast, and aims to win gold in both the sprint and the long jump events at the World Juniors in Colombia later this year.

Jack Hale’s personal best jump in the long jump is an impressive 7.66 metres.

Hale has become a household name around Australia, and the fastest kid in Oz has been tipped to make it big on the world stage.

His coach Rex Morriss is happy with the progress Hale is making, and believes that the schoolboy sensation is on the right track with his training.

“I think everything is pointing to faster times for him in the coming months and for him to be jumping further with the speed he has,” Morriss said.

Jack Hale is an exciting prospect for track-and-field, and is well on his way to becoming a world class sprinter in the coming years.

Lets not get carried away I know the media will print what they want to print. Jack along with all his competitors have got to where they are as a result of having respect for each other. Chill out please let the athletes do their thing in time the cream will rise to the top without headlines such as this. It is an insult as far as I'm concerned to refer to our senior elites as boys and I am sure they do not appreciate it at all. Kindest regards. Matt hale

Yeah, but the adults he beat weren't exactly the best we have (no disrepect to them). It was ugly though (I saw the video), how easily he beat them. The guy Hale pipped at All Schools - Trinity Grammar boy Rohan Browning - came back and ran against better open-aged sprinters at a Sydney interclub meet in December. He stumbled badly at the start then came through and beat them all, after giving up about 2m. And one of the guys he beat was a Commonwealth Games relay squad member, I think. Anyway - both have massive potential amd the two could be our future. I hope they both stick at it and keep improving consistently.
