Match Result

Scoreline Djokovic 7-6, 3-6, 6-4, 4-6, 6-0

Once again Wawrinka pushes Djokovic all the way in another five setter but the Serb just had more petrol in the tank in the end to outlast the Swiss player 6-0 in the fifth set. It was a game full of peaks and valley’s from both players and Wawrinka was well on top heading into the fifth set. His form though dropped dramatically in the fifth set and Djokovic pounced as champion players do. Djokovic and Murray now meet again in an Australian Open final. It should be tight to say the least.

Match Preview

Novak Djokovic and Stan Wawrinka have played some memorable matches against each other on Rod Laver Arena and tonight’s Australian Open semi-final promises to be another epic contest. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7.00pm AEDT.

Djokovic has yet to drop a set at the Australian Open so far but that run could finally come to an end tonight against reigning champion Wawrinka.

The Swiss star beat Djokovic in five sets last year en route to his maiden Australian Open title and he is certainly playing well enough to cause another upset.

Wawrinka’s straight sets victory over fellow grand slam contender Kei Nishikori proves that he is playing at the level required to perhaps defend his title.

Djokovic himself is coming off an impressive straight sets win over the big serving Canadian Milos Raonic. Wawrinka however is the more complete player and should provide the Serb with his toughest test of the tournament to date.

If their past two clashes against each other at the Australian Open are any indication, expect Wawrinka and Djokovic to leave nothing in the tank as they bid to make another Australian Open final.

Djokovic still starts a warm favourite tonight given his imperious record at the Australian Open. The Serb had accumulated a 25 match winning run in this tournament before finally succumbing to Wawrinka last year in a five set epic.

For Wawrinka to cause another upset, every shot in his arsenal will have to hit the mark. If he builds confidence by hitting some early winners, particularly from the backhand side, he will be difficult for Djokovic to beat.

Anything less than a complete performance from Wawrinka and Djokovic will once again contest an Australian Open final.

Prediction: Djokovic in five sets.

Djokovic holds and now leads 3-0 in the fifth set. Have to say that Wawrinka has blown it here with some poor serving. He was well in this match but a poor service game will most likely cost him the match Djokovic 7 3 6 4 3 Wawrinka 6 6 4 6 0
