The final match of the NFL season promises to be a cracker.

The Patriots have been there and done it all before football’s big day, appearing in five and winning three since the turn of the millennium. The Seahawks have less of a Super Bowl pedigree, but are of course the reigning champions.

Seattle
Last Super Bowl appearance: 2014 versus Denver, a 43-8 win

The Seahawks seek to be the first back-to-back Super Bowl champions since, ironically, the New England Patriots squads a decade ago. Last year’s 43-8 triumph over Peyton Manning’s Broncos was a startling score line, and a victory driven by a defensive performance for the ages.

Whether the Seahakws can hold out the Patriots drives will be telling in this contest. Famed for having the best defensive line in the NFL, will it take them to back-to-back titles?

New England
Last Super Bowl Appearance: 2012 versus New York Giants, a 21-17 loss

The Patriots, after winning three Super Bowls, lost their last two. They lost in 2008, against the New York Giants, spoiling an otherwise-undefeated season, and four years later to a Giants squad with many returnees – they were favourites in both.

The key for the Pats will be their offence, run by three-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady. Whether they can crack the famed defensive line of the Seahawks will go a long way to determining their Super Bowl fate.

Prediction: Last year, I picked the better offense over defence, and was burned like so many who thought Denver would win. I won’t make the same mistake twice. I’ve got Seattle winning a tight, defensive game by somewhere between 7 and 10 points.

Found guilty of doing something that up until about 6 months beforehand was perfectly legal... Spy gate was almost as blown out of proportion as deflate gate has been.

The thing is they totally obliterated the Colts and didn't need to get up to any funny business IF they in fact did it. They're a heck of a franchise. They are two freak plays away ( Tyree catch in 2008 ) & ( Manningham in 2012) from winning 6 Championships. Sure they're still pretty happy with 4 titles !

Same. Innocent until proven guilty. I might add, though, that they've been found guilty before, and that generally colours people's opinion. I'll wait and see what the investigation brings.

Take it easy there Cowboy, I was merely responding to a question SHOULD they be guilty. I never said they were guilty and hope they are not. I admire the Pats and what they have acomplished.

I just get annoyed when people make these sort of assertions about the Pats. I think all NFL teams try and go as close to the line as possible. Pete had the issue with Bush at South Cal but in no way do I think it should be brought up now. I think it just its an attempt to cheapen what these men have done and that is winning

Just asked a simple question, beause in college - as I sadly well know, from bitter USC experience - games and titles are vacated and I'm merely trying to work out whether the same sort of thing can happen in the NFL? I don't hate Brady or Belichick. I love Eli Manning, though! :)

Oh please, what are you basing that outcome on? The investigation hasn't even be completed and you are suggesting these punishments already. I really can't understand why there is so much hate out there towards BB and Brady. Are you guys that insecure due to his success on and off the field (Brady's mrs is quality). I would expect less complaining from a four year old child!

I reckon at least a heftly fine and loss of draft picks, possibly Belicheck being suspended for some of the season. They probably couldn't give a rats right now !

Wonder what happens if there is found to be an issue with the footballs in the AFC Championship Game?

MVP was Brady, pretty hard to argue with 37-50 and 4 Touchdowns despite the two picks. Edelman was also a worthy candidate. I still can't believe the Seahawks butchered that last series. Congrats to the Pats, what a game.

I had to go for a Cardio workout after that... what a crazy, crazy match. So overjoyed that the Patriots once again did their thing against all the hate in background, well deserved in a sense. Seatlle always a class above. But WOW.. Wow. I didn't catch the MVP?

He might need some new headphones to hide the steam coming out of his ears right now.

the Super Bowl is just an incredible event that always delivers an unsung hero, today it was undrafted rookie Malcolm Butler out of Western Alabama. Thanks for a great blog Andrew !

Times like this I really wish Lynch talked! ahhaha What an interview that would be. I think the dotted line on this proposed new contract might be all the talking Marshawn needs to do.

Indeed. New England can't catch a break in Super Bowls and lucky catches, it seems!

Thought Edelman deserved it. That play on 3rd and 18 was incredible. But, like NFL MVP, usually quarterbacks get the nod.
