[VIDEO] Brumbies vs Reds highlights: 2015 Super Rugby scores, blog

By Brent Ford / Roar Guru

Match Result:

Well what a performance from the Brumbies it was clinical and precise. The Reds gave away the most penalties in their club’s history in a game.

Horwill as one of the leaders of the club was weak, he gave away a handful of penalties, was yellow carded and then not heeding a warning was red carded towards the end.

Tevita Kurindrani was clinical, but the entire backline for the Brumbies was incredible. The highlights were plentiful one of them being David Pocock getting through 80 minutes, another being Nick White being able to nutmeg Will Genia on his way to the try line.

Other than that the Brumbies will be looking forward to playing the Chiefs next week and the Reds will try and gather something next week against the Force. The steak knives are already well and truly out for Richard Graham.

It’s the Brumbies 47 defeating the Reds 3

Match Preview

It may only be the first night of the 2015 Super Rugby season but this early season matchup between the Brumbies and Reds could give a great insight into how the season might unfold for these two Australian franchises. Join us here on The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:40pm AEDT.

The Brumbies have dominated the Reds in the head-to-head standings with the Brumbies taking 18 games to the Reds’ five. There has also been a draw amongst the 24 games that these two sides have played.

A new look Queensland Reds side looks like it has all the attacking weapons capable of doing the damage this year. James O’Connor is back from being banished to the Northern Hemisphere and I, like many, am hoping that the bad boy has learned his lesson and can catch fire for the Reds.

Karmichael Hunt has made the switch from the Gold Coast Suns and joins Israel Folau as the only Australian to play AFL, NRL and Super 15. He’s been impressive in trial games so expect him to find his feet quite early.

I’m predicting Samu Kerevi to have a big year, he was a weapon in the NRC and had his year limited in 2014. However barring any injuries the youngster could have a big year, especially now that he is surrounded by attacking weapons.

Meanwhile the Canberra team will welcome back David Pocock from injury. The former Wallaby has been plagued by injury since he moved to the nation’s capital, but he will desperately need to stay fit if the Brumbies are going to challenge for the title this year.

Stephen Moore is also a chance of returning from a knee injury to play the Reds tonight, with Pocock he adds a lot to a forward pack. There is still the likes of Robbie Coleman, Joseph Tomane, Jessie Mogg and Christian Lealiifano in the backline which means that the Reds will have their hands full all night.

Prediction: It looks like a tough encounter this but I think the Reds have better attacking weapons in their backline so I believe they can overturn their poor record against the Brumbies.

Reds by 5.

Mine was just a joke. Someone said Simmons, Horwill and Genia were complete myths, but Simmons hadn't even played the game.

The reds bought well. No forwards again. Hunt is as good at rugby as he was at afl.

Pocock, T. Kuridrani, Toomua & Fardy were though.... Brumms looked really solid and with a focus that you'd expect that all the Australian provincial sides should have leading into RWC. I really hope Horwill sorts himself out before his next run and just focuses on his core duties rather than being the class d1ck head.....

Pretty sure 2 yellows = 1 week suspension, and a straight red is 3 weeks. So Horwill won't be playing next week.

England will top it and Australia will be runner up. Wales to lose out. Which means an SA vs Aus quarter final...

I haven't watched this game yet and I am not a Reds supporter. However to here that the referee was rubbish is not surprising. This fellow Gardner should really give it away as he is consistently poor.

Come 14 March , the Reds supporters will be chirping up us Brumbies supporters again ! The first round tends to be a dogs breakfast and should not be judged on how a team will perform in this years SR.

I thought Hunt looked much much better once he was running off Piaaia in the second half. I think he is better suited to the second five where he has more time and can have more of a run! The forwards were an absolute dogs breakfast. Front row were good in the scrum but lacked impact around the feild once Faiinga went off. Still think QC would have made the best captain. Team for next week 1. Slipper 2. Faiinga 3. Talakai 4. Simmons 5. Horwill 6. Tui 7. Gill 8. Thompson 9. Genia 10. O'connor 11. F-Sautia 12. Hunt 13. Kerevi 14. Magnay 15. Turner 16. Hanson 17. Sef Fangeese 18. Daley 19. Kotze 20. Robinson 21. Frisby 22. JJ- Tualagi 23. Piaaia Thought Magnay looked better on the wing than Chris Kurindrani. Turner also never stopped trying and is most definitely the most experienced. Need him at fullback I think. Loose forwards were atrocious! I was disgusted at how many times we couldn't move brumbies off the ball. Lack of effort. Horwill was clearly frustrated and trying too hard. Slipper did not communicate very well with the team or ref- his personal game was ok. Reds will need a big improvement next week to beat the force. Positives were the scrum and lineout. Not much else I go by. Not to take away from the Brumbies! Brilliant performance, if they continue on an upward curve from here we could certainly see them in the finals. Sio, Pocock, Arnold all looked great in the forwards. White and Toomua played great! Tomane and Speight look very fit. And that whole back line really fired straight up! Good to see- hope we see Larkham in the wallabies coaching team very soon.

Yep, Reds by five. I love the new math! I'm sure someone will eventually poke fun at me for early season comments too. So here is one. Brumbies to be in the final this year.

Well theres certainly something to be excited about Oz rugby all of a sudden with two very unexpected results, few picking a Rebels win and no one suggesting a record Reds loss. Very impressive both sides and some real excitement out there. And the Tahs haven't even featured yet.

Poey was quick, and strong. Since his team members can do the job. I think he should moderate his efforts, and ensure he's fit all year.

Wow, that was a really different type of match: - Ref is strict about slowing recycle or disturbing the ruck. - Looks like teams have to come in from dead centre - Any wider is a penalty Interestingly only four scrums in the match. Brumbies, very smart, and well oiled: - Set piece solid. - AWESOME work over the ball, esp frontrow and backrow. - Awesome. Awesome. A geniune lift from last year - Defensive rucks isolated Reds attackers won them the game - Just had to wait for a Reds attack pod to drop in front of them, the drop over the ball. - Lineout drive polished them off, from 24 lineouts - too many turnovers conceded. Need to fix that Reds, not as horrible as I thought: - Still horrible, though fixable - Set piece solid. - Forwards attack was really poor, too isolated. Even pick/go. Backs had no chance to attack - They didnt read the Brumbies defence patterns in the ruck. Didnt adjust - Wingers butter fingers I dont think Reds read the SANZAR directive to keep attack flowing - http://www.espnscrum.com/super-rugby-2015/rugby/story/255953.html
