Melbourne captain and No.8 Scott Higginbotham will appear at a SANZAR judicial hearing on Monday, hoping to avoid being the second Rebel suspended for stamping on All Blacks icon Richie McCaw in the opening round of Super Rugby.

The incident of alleged foul play occurred in the 50th minute of the match in Christchurch last Friday, when the Rebels scored an upset 20-10 win over the seven-times Super Rugby champions the Crusaders, in the opening match of the 2015 competition.

Adam Casselden will be the judicial Officer at the teleconference hearing which will take place at 5pm (AEDT) on Monday.

If suspended for at least one game, Higginbotham will join halfback Nic Stirzaker in sitting out their opening home game against NSW Waratahs in Melbourne on Friday.

He was hit with the same illegal play citing as Higginbotham after stamping on Crusaders flanker McCaw in the third minute.

Stirzaker was on Sunday suspended for one game after acknowledging his breach and that was taken into account by the duty judicial officer.

He was issued with a yellow card at the time, but the citing commissioner determined the incident met the red card threshold.

Former Wallabies captain James Horwill received a red card for foul play in his side’s heavy loss to the Brumbies in Canberra on Friday, having twice been sin-binned in the second half for repeated infringements by his team.

SANZAR duty judicial officer Nicholas Davidson QC decided on Sunday not to impose any further sanction on Horwill.
