2015 Golden Slipper: Racing live updates, tips and results

By Brent Ford / Roar Guru

The $3.5million Golden Slipper (1200m) is the feature race in what is an unbelievable card of racing. The Gai Waterhouse trained Vancouver dominates the market, join us before the race start time at 4:30pm AEDT for commentary and tips.

Full result:

1 Margin Vancouver (AUS)
2 0.8 English (AUS)
3 1.6 Lake Geneva (AUS)
4 1.8 Ready For Victory (AUS)
5 1.9 Headwater (AUS)
6 2 Furnaces (AUS)
7 2.1 Serenade (AUS)
8 2.2 Odyssey Moon (AUS)
9 3.2 Ottoman (AUS)
10 3.8 Single Gaze (AUS)
11 5.1 Speak Fondly (AUS)
12 7.4 Haptic (AUS)
13 7.6 Fireworks (AUS)
14 8.8 Haybah (AUS)
15 17.7 Reemah (AUS)
16 17.9 Exosphere (AUS)

Dominant… That’s what Vancouver was in the Todman blowing away Furnaces and Headwater by multiple lengths. Currently a $3 quote which on form seems way overs, has to overcome history and the barrier, and many horses have fallen at that hurdle.

Headwater has drawn wide and needs to make up too much ground on Vancouver.

Furnaces comes into this behind Vancouver and gets the great barrier draw, in fact the number one barrier is the most successful in history. Needs to make up 3.3 lengths but $15 is a great quote to get the swing back on Vancouver.

Haptic beat Furnaces a few starts back over 1100m, is another who has a handy barrier and $17 could be an okay quote.

Exosphere was the other dominant runner coming out of the 1200m Skyline. Put 4 lengths on Odyssey Moon and has an okay barrier, $4 seems okay about him.

Haven’t seen much of Ready For Victory. He won over 1000m might need to see more to have any confidence.

Odyssey Moon is not for mine despite the big price.

I’ve been keen on English who drops in weight despite winning last start in the Reisling. Drawn well so $16 is quite alright, will challenge them.

Reemah not for me and Speak Fondly and Fireworks not for me.

Perhaps Haybah a knockout chance at odds?

I have some time for Ottoman on the last few runs. Was behind English, but was coming home well. $41 is silly overs in my opinion and an each way stake is worth looking at.

Lake Geneva was brave in a big Blue Diamond race, Vancouver was 2 seconds faster than Pride of Dubai the winner of the Blue Diamond. Still it looked proven in the big field so $17 isn’t all too bad.

Single Gaze comes in off a second placing in the Black Opal (1200m) that was run faster than the Blue Diamond and I think $67 about the horse is ridiculous overs. The owners paid the late fees which would sense that they might think they are a chance at picking up something here.

Look to the Stars, Serenade, Racy and Heavenly Hand not up to this.

I’ve left Exosphere out of my top four, but put it in your multiples.

Brent Ford selections:

1. Haptic 2. Vancouver 3. Furnaces 4. English

6 hours after the golden slipper was run and you still don't have the full results. That's pathetic!

Gai said it's very exciting to be right up there with her father, and so lucky to have such a great colt, she said it's important to have a jockey who knows how to win big races and she had it today.

Tommy Berry with a masterful ride and isn't he excited about it! Gai Waterhouse gets the quinella! Unbelievable effort. Ready for Victory finished fourth I think. Tommy Berry gets his first group 1! He is so emotional, he was super confident and Vancouver is a super horse, he said he is so blessed, he gave his love to everyone. What a win I love it.

Haybah leads inside the 550m, Furnaces is tucked away, Vancouver inching closer, Headwater trying hard, Vancouver and English are there English and Vancouver will fight it out and Vancouver wins the slipper from English and then Lake Geneva comes home well for third!

Headwater got a good start and Haybah will take up the lead, Vancouver is better than midfield.
