2015 Group 1 Rosehill Guineas: Racing live updates, tips and results

By Brent Ford / Roar Guru

The $500,000 Group 1 Rosehill Guineas (2000m) is shaping as an ANZAC battle with the New Zealand raiders looking to steal another Australian Group 1 race. Join us for commentary and tips before the race start time at 3:10pm AEDT.

Happy to take on Preferment and Hampton Court who simply don’t look ready for this race.

With another small field that makes it a battle between Hallowed Crown, Sweynesse and the New Zealanders.

Hallowed Crown is the current favourite and at $2.70 and untried at the distance could be a big unknown. Has only been beaten once in seven starts and is the form horse from Australia in this race, take on trust but he just isn’t for me.

Sweynesse hasn’t been able to overturn the tables on Hallowed Crown in two starts back from a spell. Has placed at the distance which could possibly be an advantage, at $2.70 I’m happy to take on.

Volkstok’n’barrell could go for days hasn’t raced at the distance but has placed twice behind Mongolian Khan over the 2100m and 2400m distance. The last start in the NZ Derby he looked to have put his rival away before Mongolian Khan fought back well to win.

Going for six wins in a row is Mongolian Khan. Has only been defeated once in his second race over the 1400m distance. He looks right for this with one win from one start over the distance.

Is tough as nails and $6 for him looks a really good quote.

Brent Ford selections:

1. Mongolian Khan 2. Volkstok’n’barrell 3. Sweynesse 4. Hallowed Crown

Donna Logan said she is so proud of her horse, she was confident in her jockey and her horse. She thinks he is very good but is still a baby, says he tries his heart out and he is that calm after the win. She said it's out of the story book this win.

Preferment runs on well and hits the lead. Volkstok'n'barrell is there, he takes the lead. Hallowed Crown gave them too much on the turn and he is outstayed, what a run from Craig Williams in the saddle. Sweynesse will finish fourth in this one.

Hallowed Crown sitting second last and giving them some sight with quite a run to go. Volkstock'n'barrell is stalking Mongolian Khan on the turn as Pounamu is swallowed up on the turn!

Pounamu takes up the pace from Mongolian Khan and Volkstok'n'Barrell, and Preferment is on the fence, then Sweynesse, Hallowed Crown and Hampton Court is last of all with 1200m to go.

Craig Williams believes his runner has more acceleration than Mongolian Khan and he is going to use that to his advantage. This is a small field but it oozes quality, he said both Sweynesse and Hallowed Crown in this race are true quality.

James Cummings shows some really good knowledge of his opponents, really good insight into his runners and all the other runners.

Not much love for the Kiwi runners on track, infact many believe the race will be a battle between Hallowed Crown and Sweynesse.

Murray Baker says his horse Mongolian Khan is fit and he hopes he gives a good account of his runner with a bigger race in picture. Might not win today based on that. Hallowed Crown a dual group 1 winner and he oozes quality, plenty of unknowns with the horse though.
