2015 Doncaster Mile: Racing live updates, tips and results

The 1600m Group 1 Doncaster Mile is one of the feature races of The Championships. Join The Roar before the race start time of 4:20pm (AEDT) for commentary and pre-race analysis.

Sacred Falls is going for three in a row, but history is stacked against him with no horse ever claiming three wins.

Hallowed Crown is the current favourite at $5.50 and despite a wide barrier he will be extremely hard to beat. He has had two runs on a heavy track both for wins, wasn’t disgraced over the 2000m last start and the 1600m run suits him better.

He overcame a wide gate in the Golden Rose, and if there is one man who can get him to win it’s Tommy Berry.

Hallowed Crown will carry 52 kilograms and be mighty hard to beat.

Suavito is in form and drops an amazing seven kilograms coming into this race. Has won twice over the distance from four starts and has never been out of the trifecta.

She got a race run to suit in the Futurity Stakes and there was a smart ride in the Blamey that got her home. It all depends where she gets in the running from barrier one, but there is more than enough talent to win this. Corey Brown comes back to ride, and $13 is a great quote.

Hard to go past Royal Descent on a wet track with the ‘Magic Man’ Joao Moreira onboard. He pulled the pants down of the top jockeys last time he was here on Brazen Beau, and it won’t be hard to imagine where he will have Royal Descent on a wet track – $8 is a fair price as well.

Real Impact took a big fight in the George Ryder against Criterion. It showed a great quality of Japanese horses that they just don’t go down easy. Has drawn wide, but James McDonald has plenty of talent, and has had one ride on the runner which will help. Will feature in the running, but the barrier hurts.

Sacred Falls is building for this, has had good running behind the winners so far this preparation, and we know he knows how to win this race with two under the belt. Zac Purton teams up once again and $17 is not a bad quote, but the wide barrier could be an undoing.

Porchinet is the only other runner I am interested in. Drops to 51 kilograms, was absolutely dominant last start, and hasn’t been out of the trifecta in the distance from three starts. Hasn’t run on a wet track but you would think being an import he’ll run well.

A little bit of specking for Kermadec, Plucky Belle and Sweynesse.

Selections
1. Hallowed Crown 2. Suavito 3. Porchinet 4. Real Impact

11,575 I think the official crowd number was. I've written an article on it today. $50 for a GA ticket and the fact it had to compete with two rugby league games on the Monday, after it would've had the Saturday free, the rain killed it as well.

The crowd looked really small on TV and was as if Channel 7 were trying to hide the gaps. What was the crowd number Brent? (and why the poor turnout?)

Waller does it again. He said it's a long time in racing and some days seem longer but this has really worked out for him and made it all worth it. Pressure now off Waller he breaks the duck egg.

We are off! Leebaz missed the start last, Rudy jumped well. Kermadec wins the Doncaster mile he came through the middle and he takes out Real Impact who was gallant! Royal Descent is third! Rudy finishes fourth!

Suavito $11's in from $14. Runners heading to the barriers now, Waller said a bit of rain about is similar to last year's Doncaster win for Sacred Falls. Said all his riders at home base have been happy with him, reckons Royal Descent will run better today.

Suavito now into $11's but there is a lot of money going on this race.

Real Impact smashed into $10! Kermadec, Porchinet and Royal Descent sharing favouritism at $7.50. Hallowed Crown still sitting at $8.50, I think Sacred Falls is giving up some weight but you have to respect him at $18.

In our last two Group 1's Mongolian Khan evenged his last start loss. While Chataqua ran down Lord of the Sky in the TJ Smith.

Track now a soft 7 for those interested. Royal Descent equal favourite with Hallowed Crown at $8.50. Great value for anyone who finds a winner today.

Massive for Suavito today. Has had a 7.5kilo drop in weight from his last start. Amazing swing in the market for Real Impact. He opened at $7.50 and is now out to $16. Amazing disrespect for a horse that showed a ton of fight last start.

Afternoon all what a cracking race we have up here. The track is playing not to shabby at the moment, early runners were playing towards the front runners but lately the teak has played fair.
