Mayweather vs Pacquiao: Manny locks down camp and Khan hangs on

By Graeme Cross / Roar Guru

With the fight of the century only four weeks away, there are rumours spreading about Manny Pacquiao suffering leg cramps, whispers of Floyd Mayweather getting knocked out, and Amir Khan clinging to these fighters’ coattails any way he can.

Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddie Roach, opened up about minor shin splints from the start of camp, but doctors have been called and scans showed everything was fine.

Furthermore, hill runs through Griffith Park in Los Angeles, 1,300 sit ups and training 30 rounds means no-one is questioning Manny’s legs.

The team has agreed to now shut the gym from media to pursue private training. Manny acknowledged the importance of the fight and stated he wanted to improve his focus on Mayweather.

Meanwhile, in Mayweather’s gym, Zab Judah has been denying claims he knocked Floyd out during a sparring session.

This might sound like a tune you’ve heard before, in the lead-up to Floyd’s fight against Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, only this time there are no YouTube clips to support the claims.

With such hype around this fight and prize fighters continuously looking for their own big pay days, it’s no surprise that Amir Khan is still hanging around.

After giving Floyd a five-day deadline earlier in the year to fight him and then threatening to take Manny in his place, Khan has been left without an opponent.

Strong stalwarts and prospects with equal or better resumes than Amir have openly stated they would happily fight him. However, Khan has avoided all takers and this week denied he even talked about them. He was apparently open to a fight with Pacquiao’s last victim, Chris Algieri, but Showtime rejected it.

Amir is weighing in on the fight, stating Floyd will win easily. Having trained with Manny at Wild Card gym, Amir thinks Pacquiao has lost a lot of his power and speed over the years.

Regardless of the result, Khan is expecting to fight the winner in Vegas. Only then will he consider someone like Kell Brook for a UK showdown.

Having seen him training, Pacquiao is looking extremely fast so I wouldn’t put too much faith in Khan’s words. However Mayweather is a master technician and looking fitter than he has since his 20s.

Pacman is hungrier and fitter, will throw over 1200 punches in 12 rounds. Money will dance for the first 4-5 and then slow and engage with Pacman. This is where Pacman's right hook and left over hand will end Floyds undefeated record. If the fight goes 12 it will be a draw with Floyd still one fight left on HBO contract and the opportunity to generate another halve billion $$. Mayweather make me sick, he is a fowl person that lacks moral standards in just about every department. I have $500 on a draw and $2000 on Pacman to knock out Floyd. I placed the bet as soon as it opened Pacman $2.70 is a super sweet deal and $21 for a draw.

I've said similar, Big Game. But I think the extra time and natural age-related decline of both fighters probably adds to the uncertainty of this fight.

Heart says Pacquiao, head says Mayweather. They have fought some common opposition with Pacquiao having had the better of men like Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto while Mayweather handled Marquez better than Paquiao. Khan should fight Kell Brook before trying either of these two legends. Khan against Pac would be exciting and probably end some where between the 5th and 8th rounds because i think Khan would engage Pacquiao. Khan and Mayweather would be interesting from a completely different perspective. Two fast slick boxer punchers playing a dangerous chess match. I think Khan would edge Mayweather over the course of a 12 round bout for a very close unanimous decision - probably 7-5 in rounds.
