When the rep season comes around, the one consistent thing is the call from the footy world of critics shouting “it’s a joke, how could they pick him, his form has been lousy”.

It is just the same as coaches who come out with “we will be picking the team on form this season”.

And why would they lock themselves into such a narrow focus of form? What if an outstanding player has missed many matches and only just returned to play? Where is his form?

But seriously, do you leave a proven performer at highest level out because of form. The whole thing about form is subjective anyway – just as the selection of any team is and always has been.

Let’s just let the coach pick his team that he feels will get the job done best.

After all he knows best what players will suit his style and give him the best chance of a victory. It does not matter what sport – the same rules apply.

The idea of an international soccer manager or basketball coach or virtually any other elite sporting team not selecting his own team would be laughed out the door.

Anyway just for the hell of it, here is what I consider the form team after eight rounds of NRL.
