Red Bull Racing’s Helmut Marko has made some unbelievable claims this week regarding his two drivers, Daniel Ricciardo and Daniil Kvyat.

He has claimed they are the team’s problem so far this season and that they are being out-performed by the Toro Roso pair of Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz Jr.

Looking at Marko’s claims it appears as though he is very much a man under pressure and is obviously trying to steer the pressure and the spotlight away from himself and the rest of the struggling team.

Ricciardo has shown throughout his fledgling Formula One career that given an average car he can get it up to the pointy end of the field. But unfortunately for both drivers, as well as the team, the Red Bull cars have not even reached the average stage this season.

Unfortunately looking at the Red Bull cars they are only realistically capable of seventh or eighth, which is where Ricciardo is getting his car to finish on a regular basis. It has to be remembered that at the last Grand Prix in Spain Ricciardo started behind both Toro Roso drivers and finished well ahead of them, not that you would know it from Marko’s comments.

My advice to Helmut Marko would be that if he is serious about Red Bull improving then he should be honest about their problems and improve those areas rather than make the drivers the scapegoats.

This year still has a long way to go but with attitudes like Marko’s it is going to be a long season for everyone in the Red Bull team.
