Michael Ennis to contest high-tackle charge in bid to play Origin

By News / Wire

Cronulla hooker Michael Ennis will face the NRL judiciary on Wednesday night to fight his grade-one careless high-tackle charge.

Ennis was cited for his hit on Matt Scott in Saturday’s come-from-behind win over North Queensland.

With 38 carry-over points from a contrary conduct charge in round two, the Sharks rake would have been suspended for one week had he taken the early guilty plea.

But the club said on Tuesday it would challenge the ban.

If successful, he’ll be available to play for NSW in the State of Origin decider should Robbie Farah be ruled out.

Farah has been named in the Blues’ side despite fracturing his hand, but could still be a late withdrawal if he isn’t fit in time for next Wednesday’s match at Suncrop Stadium.

Although you would think since he hasn't been named for NSW that he would have to...

Ahhhh. That's an interesting point renegade. I can't see him playing for the Sharkies though. Would think he will go straight into camp.

It matters to the Sharkies mate as he may still play on Sunday!

Will be an interesting one. Will probably lose at the judiciary because it doesn't matter anyway. Would be a different story if it did matter though.

Finally found a replay. Looks a little bit nasty from the side view, but from front on at full speed there is really not much in it. All this TBA drama could be for nothing yet.

I agree Nate- Ennis has a tendency to do something dumb whether it be giving away a penalty or kicking on the second tackle. But the reality is who else is there to play hooker for the Blues. If Farrah is ruled out Nathan Peats and Mitch Rein are injured. If he is smart enough for the whole 80 minutes the Blues should still get the win.

I think Ennis is the kind of player who will put in everything for his team, but doesn't worry about the games he's not selected for -- I think that's just good professionalism.

As I said, I'm just a fan with no playing interest and the series losses hurt me. You want people out there that are willing to bleed for your state but that comment just made me realise Ennis bleeds for Ennis and that's it.

Why would the 6 series he didn't play in hurt him personally? I'm sure he was unhappy about the one they lost when he was playing, but as a professional there's no reason he should worry about the others.

Why is Ennis even allowed near a blue jersey again? When he was asked after the game a few years ago how much it hurt to have lost 7 series in a row he replied, doesn't bother me, I only lost one. It hurt me as a fan that happened so I would bloody hope it hurt every player that wore blue. If not, then pretty clear you don't deserve to wear the jersey.

Good. It's best to beat the charge and go into camp now, rather than play ducks and drakes.
