An open letter of gratitude to Kieran Foran

By Mary Konstantopoulos / Expert

Dear Kieran, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Thank you for today committing to my club, the Parramatta Eels, for two years.

Last week was hard for me and I know it would have been hard for you too. As a Parramatta supporter who was so desperate to see you in blue and gold, it was devastating to think that we had almost blown it.

As a club we are not strangers to controversy and it seemed like just another error in the series of errors which have plagued us for many years. I’m sorry that you were embroiled in media controversy and I’m sorry that what should have been very simple contract negotiation turned into a big saga.

I’m so pleased it is all settled now.

I cannot tell you how much joy and hope your signing has given our club. You are a very special player and one that a team can build a team around. Your talent is immense.

I have taken a very keen interest in you over the past few weeks and I think you are going to be a real asset to the Eels. We are overjoyed to welcome you to our club and we are so pleased that you will be calling Parramatta home for the next two years (at least). I deeply hope that your stay is a very happy one.

We are a very proud club with a rich history and plenty of tradition. You join a club that is not only passionate about its on-field performance but is deeply committed to making a difference off the field too. We cannot wait to welcome you into the playing group and to see the influence you will have not just on our team but in the wider Parramatta community.

The fans cannot wait to welcome you either – I will probably give you a hug the first time I meet you.

I would also like to thank you for being a man of your word and a man that has shown nothing but sincerity and integrity, despite this saga causing tremendous uproar. In a world where a contract or a signature on a piece of paper often means very little and where fans are so used to having their hearts broken at the last minute, I thank you for being a man of your word.

This signing means so much to my club and we will all be celebrating for the remainder of the weekend.

Today has been a day where I have also reflected, following the death of Phil Walsh. While last week your playing future was at the forefront of my mind, today I am reminded that there are things that are more important. Things like family, friends, trust, respect and integrity.

As the Australian sporting community, a very powerful community, grieves today, I am reminded that there are more important things in life and continue to remember the sporting community which is grieving today.

Despite that, Kieran, I am so glad you will be at the Eels. Thank you for being a man of your word – it means more to us than we can possibly say.

With love,

Mary Kaye and the Parramatta Eels fan-base.

Mals but he has get out clause for Arthur and 2018. He is a special to go to NZ should expansion include a second NZ team.

Foran only went to Parra because he met his "Allan Bond". Can't blame the guy, a rugby league career is short.

Which isn't true Killa. The Eels have something exciting blow up in their face every 6 months. Ricky Stuart, Chris Sandow, Jarryd Hayne. All things that got you very excited and then back fired horribly.

Jay, I think & thats only based on the TV games & listening to the radio calls Norman has been pretty close to the best player at Parra this year. He's only 24 now based on his birthdate shown on the Parra web site, so still has a fair bit of learning to do & for mine a bit more a team player than Sandow. The best aspect of Sterlo when he played was his both his freakishness, which Sandow has, but he played more as a team player than for his own. This worked exceptionally well with Kenny outside him, who I don't think was the same when combined with other halves at the club level. This is the area that Sandow cannot seem to grasp, & at 27 now & 28 next January, I cannot see him changing. I would love to see him picked up by another NRL club though, as it would be tragic not seeing him in the competion.

fazed Totally unconnected , if you want hassle free facebook get Facebook Purity at http://www.fbpurity.com/ ... it's %100 safe and you just tick check boxes of the stuff you want blocked ie; adds , people you don't know trying to friend you , facebook suggesting as friends people you have never heard of , game apps etc , there's a whole rake of stuff you can filter out . I have been using it for over a year and without it, I too would have given facebook the flick.

Robinson has played Fullback & has some experience there, although a better winger, at 28 not sure how much better an option over Gordon for a couple of years, especially as BA is wanting to have young Bevan French gain more experience & is seen as a long term fullback for the club.

Appreciate your thoughts & the post on the clubs facebook page being repeated here, as I cannot handle FB owing to many things, most of all the amount of junk stuff & people wanting to be freinds that one never has heard of. I am sure there are positives on it but I try to limit even my time on the internet as I have other interests that I enjoy. All that aside, I also liked Cris, & would have liked to have seen him retained & was one that has been on his side on this forum for some time now, & I think he could have worked well with Foran as a halves combo, although I think that a Foran 6 & Norman 7 would be a much better option as both are more steady, rather than the uncertainty around Sandows plays. Chris shot himself not just in the foot with his public outburst against BA restricting his game, & wanting more structured plays, in the end he shot his brains out as well. He forgets that last year BA did allow him a lot of freedom to play his own game, & yes they won a few but also lost a few as well. I know of no one in any business who thinks he can tell his immediate boss on what he should allow him to do, as an exception to the rest of the crew, he would have been out the door then & there, & would have no case at fair work Australia for wrongfull dismissal. While Norman is filling the #1 spot at the moment & will do quite well, the primary reason he came to Parra & signed a contract with them was that he would play as a 5/8, he considered it his best position & was unable to get much of a chance there, especially when the Bronco's signed Scott Prince, & that was the final nail for him. No doubt that he has agreed to playing there with BA, but he did switch back to the 5/8 position last game, which tells a lot as to where he should be playing. I have taken a lot of notice with Foran's plays since his on/off/on coming to Parra, & one thing I notice is how often he plays as a 7, & that is at scrum times, same with Norman during a fair bit of the time, & that shows how these two will fit together very nicelly.

Gordon on a one year deal. Smells like Hayne is coming back in 2017!

Lol. I am strangely glad he is going there too. A strong Parramatta is good for the game. Plus anyone escaping Manly is good news. Just sick of the character references.

Jay Didja hear that Foz is a very ethical fellow ? Errr do you need a bag about now .... ;-) On a serious note , you'll have to excuse us Parra fans as we're all a bit hopped up at the moment.....something along the lines of not having too much to be excited about recently .

Yes Jay unfortunately I think you're right and Sandow is a goner . The pity is he could have been a real superstar of the game, if and it's a big "IF" he had some consistency in his game. Also I hear what you're saying about Norman , that's why I would shift him to the back .

Killa, I reckon I am the lone voice on this one but I can't stand Norman. He has a much vision as a blind vole. Probably one of the top 3 most skilful halves in the competition but he's just prone to taking the wrong option. Admittedly he has gotten marginally better at Parra. In saying this though, I agree a move to Fullback would suit. I would worry about his communication and ability to structure the defence though. I think Chrissy Sandow has to go. I can't see how Parramatta can afford all of them if it was over the cap this year and last. If it came down to Sandow or losing some of the young forward talent I know which way I would go. It's a shame too because Sandow is great to watch.

There is a lot of talk of Kieran's 'code of ethics' and I'm sure he's a top guy. But there are plenty of guys out there with similar ideas of right and wrong. It's just we get Kieran's ethics shoved down our throats every second day. There are plenty of good guys in Rugby League, guys that manage themselves. Guys that don't have 1 million dollar get out clauses written into their contracts. Again, I love Foran, but if I have to hear how ethical the bloke is 1 more time I am going to barf.

Interesting side note. McCracken ended up in Townsville where he opened a bunch of nightclubs which went bankrupt.
