Cheap Seats 79: A heavy week in sport

By The Cheap Seats Podcast / Roar Guru

Sportswriters Brett McKay and Ryan O’Connell – or one of them particularly – have adjusted the man-crush list ahead of Episode 79 of the Cheap Seats podcast.

#AskTheCheapSeats is back, seeking explanation on Dean Mumm’s inclusion in the Wallabies’ 40-man squad, and whether the Alex McKinnon-Cameron Smith thing is anything more than a media beat up. And that segues neatly into…

The 60 Minutes report on the recovery of former NRL player Alex McKinnon. A really good story providing revealing insight into what McKinnon and his family went through at the time and now, 15 months on, has been quickly hijacked by the portrayal of Melbourne Storm captain Cameron Smith in the report.

The story is now less about McKinnon and more about Smith, and in our humble opinions, Channel Nine and 60 Minutes have some questions to answer.

In other news, the State of Origin decider looms, we again ponder ‘This week’s premiership favourites’, and talk the Super Rugby final and the Wallabies squad.

We also try to get our heads around the tragic death of Adelaide Crows coach Phil Walsh, and the sudden retirement of Australian quick Ryan Harris on the eve of the Ashes.

Plus there’s a wrap up of the Cheap Seats Tipping League, which you can still join for The Ashes and The Rugby Championship.

Get us on Twitter at @CheapSeatsPod, plus now on the TuneIn radio app as well, and get your questions in for next week using the tag #AskTheCheapSeats.

And stay cheap!

Anopinion, you are right, and we do apologise. But you should hear what we cut out! (The irony in this, as Ryan alluded, is that we had this very discussion about what we kept and what we cut - the words, "it's not like kids listen to us" were even used! And in fairness to us, Alex McKinnon swore more than we did!!) Lessons learned though, and thanks for the feedback. And you're safe from the rugby discussion onwards, if you do turn it back on..

Understand that you're making a genuine point anopinion. But I couldn't help but chuckle at you describing ROC and McSport as unprofessional. I expect we'll see one of them pop up on 60 Minutes any time now. And the other as Nick Kyrgios' press secretary...

Apologies for the language, anopinion. Sincerely. We don't normally swear on the podcast, but in the heat of conversation, such things sometimes occur. Ironically, we edited out another part of the podcast that used foul language, but left that particular reference in, as we didn't feel it required it. In hindsight, we should have edited that as well, or at least provided a warning. Lesson learned, and apologies once again.

Wow. I was listening to this with my little kids and you start describing things as "s***". I have turned you off now. A more professional approach would be appreciated
