Johnathan Thurston breaks State of Origin kicking record

By The Roar / Editor

In his 33rd consecutive appearance at State of Origin level for the Queensland Maroons, Johnathan Thurston added another line to his extensive resume, breaking the record for the most goals kicked in a single Origin match.

Thurston’s scoring for the evening began as Queensland levelled up the scores at 2-2, from a penalty in front of the sticks within the first ten minutes of the match.

With more than 20 minutes remaining, Thurston slotted his eighth goal for the night, surpassing the previous record, as Queensland extended the margin to a commanding 40-2.

As Queensland continued their massacre, Thurston extended the record to nine with more than ten minutes remaining.

The record is, however, just a small representation of the greater achievement that is Thurston’s career at Origin level.

What do you think Roarers, has Thurston’s performance cemented his place as one of the greatest ever Maroons?

I think Ryan Girdler got 10 for 10 goals in the 3rd game in 2000! I'm a Qlder and love Thurston so if I'm right this article is just embarrassing???
