Hawthorn primed to Dock points from Fremantle

By Bronwyn Knight / Roar Pro

At the mouth of the Swan River the port of Fremantle lies
It’s a busy sort of place although it’s fairly small in size,
In and out of the harbour has sailed many a mighty ship
But there’s one boat they’ve never seen – the elusive ‘premier’ ship.

The Dockers had their chances once a couple of years ago
But Hawthorn were triumphant against the odds you know,
For the media and ‘experts’ were emphatic Freo’d win
But when the final siren went, where was Crowley’s grin?

Melbourne had been invaded by a mob of Dockers fans
They drove across the Nullabour in their silly purple vans,
There was a media circus that just went on and on and on
So many wrote the Hawks off and said all hope was gone.

But Nat Fyfe seemed off target and Hayden had a shocker
Poor kicking cost the game and Ross Lyon went off his rocker,
Though Freo fought back towards the end and closed the gap to three
They couldn’t catch the Hawks as they surged on to victory.

Brian Lake was superb and deserved his Norm Smith Medal
All the usual suspects kept their feet firmly on the pedal,
Smithy kicked outside fifty; I’ll admit I thought he couldn’t
And then the Hawks defied the odds when many said they wouldn’t.

On the AFL ladder this year the Dockers sit on top
They’ve won almost every game thus far but that’s about to stop,
‘Cause this round they play in Lonnie where Hawthorn rarely lose
There can only be one winner and I know which team I’ll choose!

The Eagles have lost the last 7 derbies They've put up as much fight as a bunch of old furbies But hey they're second on the ladder just behind Freo With how many wins against the top 4? Zero!

This will provide an interesting catalyst. A few need to either rest...or earn their places again. The young fellas like Blakely will be let loose. Above everything, Fyfe will go forward and allow Munday and Hill more midfield time. Be prepared for a purple explosion. Hawks were good today. I think they will finish ahead of Sydney, next game, but they are either up or down, Sam Mitchell, 3 weeks? Taylor Walker is a guest judge on this week's MRP.

Freo was shackled by umpiring elves The free kicks were 21 clangers...to 12 Mitchell, the dirtiest act of his life A dirty and cynical knee to Nat Fyfe All Freo needs do is kick when they've got it Forget all this handball, they've just gotta stop it All that I want is a game at the "G" The Premiers wear Purple...'twill happen, you'll see.

There’s a fat lady in Tassie named Bronwyn Knight Right now she’s singing loudly with all of her might Because in Lonnie today the Hawks did prevail Alas the Dockers tried hard but to little avail.

The Hawks have had the Dockers measure of late. This has given their fans reason to salivate. Can Freo turn the tide and beat the Hawks? Or are they destined to remain the bridesmaid Dorks?

Credit should be given where credit is due So this 'poet' knows exactly what she must do Should the Dockers prevail and we hear their song I'll be gracious in defeat and admit I was wrong. Should the Hawks win I promise I won't be mean It's only a game so I will keep it nice and clean Dockers fans you may not know each and every week Each team cops a bit of my 'one-eyed Hawks cheek'!!

Hawks to win! No, Freo in a canter! How we love this nonsensical banter Cos till the siren rings And the Fat Lady sings No one will know the true answer.

Very good Bronwyn - why is the standard of female writing here higher than the male ? - it's not fair ! Just one complaint, I know it's not your fault, but that cringeworthy video clip has to go Oh !, and as for this game in Lonnie, and how the teams will fair, I'm going for Hawthorn! - trust me, a Lay down misere

In my defence not much rhymes with Vics .... well maybe kicks, hicks, nicks, licks, flicks, spicks, etc etc All in good humour ... :) And I got my calc wrong - its was only 19 years until Freo's first grannie

Well played Bronwyn. This match reminds of last year when Hawks top of the ladder went to Subiaco with a lot more riding on the game for Freo then Hawthorn. The Dockers duly won by 19 points but the Hawks had their eyes on bigger targets. Not necessarily saying Freo will win the flag but Hawthorn need it more this week, in what I predict may be the GF preview.

Alternatively ... On the beautiful Indian ocean The port of Fremantle lies Unlike the brown port of Melbourne Freo’s water is the colour of sky Back in the day in 1914 The first aussie troops from here set sail To battle far away with the odds against then To keep fighting until they’d prevail That same spirit was there 80 years later When in 94 Freo came to be And 23 years later, 30 sooner than the Hawks They played in their first grannie The history of football in Fremantle Is ignored by those in the east The Sharks and the Bullies have won so many cups In the port it’s a premiership feast Great names like Michael, Winmar and Rioli Have donned the jumper of a freo club They’ve played with pride, courage and skill Making this port a true football hub This week the Dockers travel to Tassie Another place dismissed by the Vics But it was Tasmanian's who first settled Melbourne So they can’t all be a bunch of pricks The Dockers will again battle the weather, The commentators, umpires and Mayblooms They’ll give as good as they get, and after which The hawks season will need to be exhumed :)

The Hawks will come out flying, as if they're playing for their life But the Dockers have something special, his name is Natty Fyfe.
