Cheap Seats 83: Overreaction Week

By The Cheap Seats Podcast / Roar Guru

Sportswriters Brett McKay and Ryan O’Connell are culling batsmen and halfbacks left, right and centre in Episode 83 of the Cheap Seats podcast.

A cracking #AskTheCheapSeats this week on topics including the Wallabies halves, designer stubble, and just what kind of preparation the Australian cricket team undertook.

The Wallabies wrapped up the Rugby Championship with a wonderful win over the All Blacks in Sydney, in a game that will cause headaches for both coaches either side of the ditch. What awaits the Wallabies in Auckland this weekend? And Wallabies fans are still calling for some players to never be picked again!

In other news, the Ashes have been surrendered, and the witch hunt is well underway. Michael Clarke has announced his retirement, but was he pushed?

Do we have new NRL premiership favourites? Prepare the fanfare just in case.

Plus there’s a wrap up of the Cheap Seats Tipping League, which you can still join.

Get us on Twitter at @CheapSeatsPod, on Soundcloud, iTunes, and the TuneIn radio app, and get your questions in for next week using the tag #AskTheCheapSeats. And stay cheap!

Interesting point on the Windies. I didn't know that; my bad. On the sporting arenas, I think the optimum is having a mix, to be honest. You'll need some big, centralised stadium. However, the smaller stadiums certainly have their place.

Probably not an overreaction, but it does feel a little rash.

The West Indies wasn't a bad preparation for the Ashes as they also use the Duke ball. I'd be interested in your opinion on stadiums for Australian sport as they battle for crowds against all the other entertainment options. Should sports be looking for the large centralised stadiums with all the bells and whistles like WiFi and food delivered to your seat to create the most comfortable experience? Or should they look to the smaller regional stadiums to magnify the atmosphere and have an experience you can't get anywhere else?

Is it really an overreaction for Clarke to be retiring? At 34, with a bad back that's leading him to other injuries, and having not scored a fifty at international level since the world cup final, I'm not sure it is. The next three series seem like the right time to try and settle on a good team for the tour of NZ early next year, NZ and Bangladesh will be tough but quite beatable (bowling alone should be able save Aus in both those series, the ground selection for the NZ tour is very Australia friendly) and the West Indies are a bit of a running joke at this stage.
