South Sydney prop George Burgess is facing a two-match ban for allegedly throwing a water bottle at Sydney Roosters prop Kane Evans.

Burgess has been hit with a grade two contrary conduct charge for the 58th minute incident during Souths’ 30-0 loss to the Sydney Roosters at Allianz Stadium on Friday.

Defending champions South Sydney face Cronulla in an elimination final on Sunday.

Evans also copped a grade one contrary conduct charge stemming from the same incident.

The Roosters prop can escape a ban with an early guilty plea, and be free to play in the minor premiers’ Friday qualifying final against Melbourne.

Evans’ teammate, five-eighth James Maloney will also get to play in the match as his grade one charge for tripping Souths forward Kyle Turner does not amount to a ban.

Newcastle forward Tariq Sims is set to head into the off-season with a huge ban hanging over him for next season after being cited for a shoulder charge on Penrith hooker James Segeyaro during the weekend’s wooden spoon battle at Pepper Stadium

Sims is facing a five-week suspension for an early guilty plead and six weeks if he unsuccessfully contests the matter.

His Newcastle teammate Sione Mata’utia was charged with contrary conduct from the same game and could be suspended for one match.

Wests Tigers’ unhappy season has ended with two players facing bans.

Dene Halatau is set to get a one-match ban for a shoulder charge on St George Illawarra’s Drew Hutchinson while halfback Luke Brooks faces a one-match ban for a dangerous throw on Jason Nightingale.
