European nation Wales and relative minnows Uruguay meet on Sunday night in their Rugby World Cup opener. Join The Roar from 11.30pm (AEDT) for all the action from Cardiff.

Wales start their World Cup with a very easy match against the South Americans on home soil. No players from this Uruguay team have ever played in the tournament before and face an insurmountable challenge against the Six Nations side.

The Welsh haven’t had the best build up, losing Rhys Webb and Leigh Halfpenny to injury before a ball has been kicked, but they still have a strong squad. They will be out to smash their opponents and record a cricket score.

Warren Gatland has rested a few players, such as Dan Biggar, Jamie Roberts, Toby Faletua and George North. They have hosts England in six days time and will be saving them for that crunch encounter.

Wales will want to stack on the points as progression may come down to points difference with games against Australia and England to come.

For Uruguay fifteen players will make their World Cup debut with another possible eight debutants coming off the bench. None of the 23 players in coach Pablo Lemoine’s squad has any World Cup experience.

The side will be captained by lock Santiago Vilaseca. The most experienced player in the starting line-up is hooker Carlos Arboleya, who will be making his 51st Test appearance.

Uruguay will be doing well to stop the Welsh bringing up a century against them.
