Blues stand firm in trade talks

By News / Wire

Carlton have reiterated their demand for first-round draft picks in return for disgruntled AFL stars Lachie Henderson and Chris Yarran.

Henderson, who is out of contract, wants to move to Geelong while Yarran is keen on joining Richmond at the AFL trade period that starts on Monday.

“Let’s make it very, very clear that (Yarran) is a contracted player so we’ll be fighting tooth-and-nail for the best possible pick for Chris because he is a quality player,” Carlton football manager Andrew McKay told the AFL’s website.

“We want a first-round pick. Richmond are baulking at that by the sound of it, but that’s just all part of the negotiation process.”

McKay is more confident of getting a deal done with the Cats to send Henderson on his way.

“We’re in discussions with Geelong and they haven’t indicated to us they won’t have a first-round pick available to us,” he said.

The Cats will join the Blues as key players in the off-season player movement periods, with Adelaide’s Patrick Dangerfield their main prize.

The 25-year-old restricted free agent has expressed his desire to switch to Geelong but the Crows have vowed to get a better deal than the AFL compensation pick (No.14) currently on offer.

The Cats are also hopeful of signing West Coast’s Scott Selwood, who is also a restricted free agent.

They need to keep their first round pick, they usually do. They might trade Astbury to the lions for some more ammunition. Also hope they keep Lennon.

If Richmond are desperate they might give up a first round pick but Carlton might struggle to get it considering there might be some bad blood between them and Yarran. A first round pick for Henderson is laughable. They might get a second in a package for their third and where is Geelong going to get a first round pick from anyway?Dangerfield is going to take precedence by a long, long way.

No way will they get a first round pick for Yarran, a second round plus fringe player would be their best bet.

Exactly. Of course Yarran could be a very handy pick-up for the Tigers if he gets himself in the right headspace but Richmond have had a great strike rate with their 1st round selections over the last decade. I would be loathe to give that up.

Everybody knows Carlton are desperate to trade Yarran and Yarran wants to be traded. Their position is week. 2nd rounder at best.
