Match Result:

This game was a lot closer than the scoreline suggested with the Diamonds running away with the game in the final quarter.

It was a seesawing affair with both sides having their chances to take the game by the scruff of the neck, but ultimately it was Australia’s defence that stood up when the game was on the line.

Gretel Tippett starred when she came on at wing attack and Caitlin Bassett was outstanding again with 39 goals.

The series now heads to Australia with the Diamonds firmly in the box seat to claim the Constellation Cup.

Final Score:
Silver Ferns 48
Diamonds 58

The Diamonds continued their strong Constellation Cup form against the Silver Ferns of Tuesday evening, running out a six-goal, 50-44 victory.

Caitlin Bassett was dominant for the World Champions, netting 38 goals, while captain Laura Geitz caused the hosts all sorts of problems down the other end.

The Silver Ferns will need to find answers for both of them tonight.

Losing on Tuesday means that New Zealand have now only managed to knock off Australia in one of the past ten Constellation Cup meetings. It also means they have they once again have their backs against the wall in a Constellation Cup series.

With tonight being the last match in New Zealand before the series heads to Melbourne and Perth, the Silver Ferns must find a way to produce a result, as the games are only going to get tougher in Australia.

Gretel Tippett, sister of AFL footballer Kurt Tippett, will make her debut for the Diamonds and it will be intriguing to watch the impact of the former WNBL rookie of the year.

Can New Zealand keep their hopes of regaining the Constellation Cup alive? Or will Australia move to a 2-0 lead?
