Richie McCaw faces the possibility of missing the Rugby World Cup final after a video has emerged of the All Blacks’ captain appearing to elbow South African flanker Francois Louw in the face during Sunday morning’s semi-final victory.
The incident occurred in the first half, and the video seemingly shows McCaw running around the back of the ruck and deliberately attempting to strike the 30-year-old South African with his elbow, though it’s unclear whether he makes contact or not.
He has not been cited as of yet, but if a complaint is lodged by the citing officer the World Cup winning skipper may miss the final where the All Blacks will play either Australia or Argentina.
Striking with the elbow has a low-end sanction of a two-week suspension – the citing officer has 36 hours from the end of the match to raise the issue.
The South African flanker needed 16 stitches to the head after the game, but it’s not known if it was from McCaw’s strike or not – Louw told the media.
“I’m not sure, I think it was at the bottom of a ruck,” he said.

The blind leading the blind .. you see what you want to see ... he races in around the pack .. and his elbow hits his opponent in the head knocking him backwards .. you see what you want to see .. if he goes it's because he acted neglintely not because he's innocent ..

Yeah, rather McCaw than some of the other young in form AB's to take his place. This charge a beat up with no chance of success.

Even with my golden wallaby eyepatch on this does not warrant a suspension at worst accidental with leow making a late move into his path and believe me II am no Richie fan. Yes he plays at eh edge but that is what makes him a great no 7

Pocock deliberately kneed a player in the chest and received a warning (equivalent to an on field yellow card) The two situations aren't even remotely similar.

Thank you - I also want to see both teams full strength so it is fair and we can have "clean" bragging rights!

Fair to say that anyone who jumped on this beat up made a fool of themselves, driven by their prejudices. Of course he hasn't been cited - there is nothing there to cite. World Rugby has confirmed no citings from that Semi.
