Match result:

The Cairns Taipans pulled off an incredible road win over the Adelaide 36ers in what could prove to be the game of the season.

In a fast-paced classic the Taipans had to fight hard to pull off with the win which only came when Markel Starks sunk a three-pointer with 0.3 seconds on the clock.

Starks was massive all night, scoring 27 points, and was well supported by Torrey Craig (19) and Mark Worthington (13).

After a fast start from the Taipans the 36ers tired to reel them in and were able to level the scores in front of a home crowd.

Daniel Johnson scored 29 points for the 36ers and Jerome Randle provided a second-half spark to finish with 25.

However in what was a great advertisement for the competition it was the Taipans who came away with a win by 3 points.

Match preview:

The Adelaide 36ers play host to the Cairns Taipans at Adelaide Arena in what shapes as a crucial game for both teams. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:30pm (AEST).

The Adelaide 36ers head into this crucial game with three wins and two losses and have not played since last Friday night when they defeated the Sydney Kings away from home, 91-80.

They should be well rested coming into this game and welcome a Taipans side who have just come off an away loss against the Breakers on Wednesday night. The Taipans head into this game at two wins and four losses and will be desperate to add another win on the road.

The Adelaide 36ers have recently added star guard Jerome Randle to the team and he has been an instant success. The quick point guard has taken the NBL by storm and will be looking to keep the good form going. Teamed with guards Ebi Ere, captain Adam Gibson, along with big forward Anthony Petrie, the 36ers look like a team that can go deep into the season and the play-offs.

The Taipans have been a hard team to read thus far and head into this game with wins against the Illawarra Hawks and the Townsville Crocodiles. Mark Worthington looks to be their key player – he has fired every time the Taipans have won this season.

The 36ers meanwhile have had wins against the New Zealand Breakers, Cairns Taipans and Sydney Kings.
