The Hayne Plane will soar, and you'll eat humble pie

By Gazbo / Roar Guru

The tall poppy syndrome is alive and well, with Jarryd Hayne the latest high-profile sportsman to bear the brunt of it.

For those who have been quick to criticise Hayne for being cut by the San Francisco 49ers, at least he’s having a go.

After a promising start he had a couple of less-than-impressive games, but he’s still learning the game.

It would have taken a lot of courage, resolve and self-belief for Hayne to walk away from his superstar status in the NRL to pursue his dream, and for doing that most sports fans have paid him the due respect and admiration.

Will Hayne ever become an NFL superstar? Possibly not, but this latest setback will only fuel his desire even more to make it in the NFL.

Knocking somebody famous when they’re down is a sad indictment of the world that we live in. If people were more positive and offered support to sportsmen in their time of need, what a better world it would be.

I look forward to seeing those doubters who say Hayne won’t make it eat humble pie when he does.

Because the ‘Hayne Plane’ may currently be grounded, but make no mistake he’ll soar again and prove them wrong.

lol, he's still going. Nexx 5 days ago, "Hayne can't play football on NFL level. Not on this team or any other team. It is as simple as that. It's not just his fumbles or his bad pass protection. It's his overall game. He looks sloppy and unnatural, can't make good decisions and can't remember the playbook. If any team saw big potential in him, they would have picked him up already. As far as I know, all the foreigners who play in the NFL, have first went through the college system, which is much better for learning the game. NFL is not the place for that." Hey coach, come back! http://wp.me/s4u5XH-scb

@nexx http://wp.me/p4u5XH-L Nice one. You should title it 65 Yard Reception though because 65 yard catch means it is caught after 65 yards of air time. As the receiver, statistically you get accredited for 65 Receiving Yards. Some also like to track two more stats of every successful pass: Air Yards and YAC (Yards After Catch). Looks like 4/61 which is sort of funny because it would be written up as Pass Receiving Yards, but really it was a long run.

@Nexx Nexx quote #1 "I can tell you as someone who has been playing and coaching this game, that..." Nexx quote #2 "even if everything you say about your football experience is true... it still doesn’t say anything about how well you understand the game". lol this stuff is gold.

@Administrator If you're gonna delete a whole bunch of posts, then be fair and delete everything starting from the first post, instead of stopping midway on a comment that links my posts from another site.

@Logic 1. I've had the chance to meet and talk to Reuben Droughns, who you should know, since you were the MVP of the world. He was the biggest clown I ever met and had a football mind to match. Sorry, even if everything you say about your football experience is true (which I have no reason to believe, just like you don't believe me), it still doesn't say anything about how well you understand the game. Droughns won the Superbowl, and was still a football dummy. But this is irrelevant. 2. As you see, I'm not saying anything about what kind of person you are (personal attack) while you continue to do so to me, even though you know me as much as I know you. And I'm not going to. I don't think that me being a football coach is a great accomplishment at all, nor do I think it's something worth bragging about. I have VERY CLEARLY explained why I mentioned that, and I'm not gonna waste even a second repeating it. On the other hand, when I tell someone they don't understand the game, I'm not saying they're dumb, stupid or anything similar. It's not an insult. Unlike you, I'm not insulting anyone. 3. Dude, your point is as simple as it can get - "There's a whole lot of Hayne hate, stop hating on the guy!" That's pretty much all you're saying. My answer to that is that in my experience (and as I said, most of the people here seem to agree with me) there is NO significant hate directed towards Hayne himself, and then I explained who the hate you read on the internet is directed to. And you're talking about me missing the point??? Then you pull up some stupid insignificant FB page that has existed forever to prove your point how Hayne hate is everywhere and how you actually mean 'Hayne hate' in general, and not just for his NFL career. You can type the name of ANY major sports person or celebrity, add 'hate' to it, and you'll get at least a couple of hate pages. So what does that prove? On the other hand, this article talks SPECIFICALLY about Hayne's NFL career and people bashing him for failing there. People have responded to that by saying that they have only seen support since he announced he was going to try and crack the NFL and you then jump in defense of the article (which, I repeat, specifically talks about Hayne being bashed for not succeeding in the NFL), by talking about how some people hated him forever. And then you're telling ME I'm missing the point?? Dude, you don't know what the word 'point' means!

"I’ve only got interested in this topic from the time he started his NFL career". Oh... so you jumped on the bandwagon?

If someone makes a comment, I have absolute right and freedom to answer HIS COMMENT and the statements he made in it, and there's no rule or logical reason whatsoever that requires me to only talk about what the article says. I needed to explain this, seriously?

Nexx said: "I need to know it better than you and others like you, which I do". Arrogant much? And do you know it better? You don't even know who I am, or any of these people. I'm going to say this about my experience and nothing more, because I'm not egotistical like you, but feel I am pressured to drop to your level. Been a fan since I was ten years old. I have ten years experience playing, Defensive captain, 2 x best defensive back, 1 x team MVP, 2 x team championships and a pro bowl (not THE Pro Bowl ofc). Blah, blah, blah, woop-de-doo! Nexx said "YOU ALSO ignored every point I made...". I will continue to do so as everything you type is on a totally different topic, is ignorant and obnoxious. Not to mention I'm tired of listening to you go on about a game like you’re Don Shula… which you are not. Nexx said "When I say – read the comment – I mean it". Why? You don't. In regards to your attack on Aura, which btw is probably where you think someone had an issue NFL bandwagon fans, it seems obvious to me that she quoted YOU from the point in your other comment, where you went off topic. Hence the reason she said "You just wrote a mini essay that has absolutely nothing to do with the article, nor my post". Once again this shows how lost you are on this topic, and incapable of understanding written English. Nobody here seems to be an NFL bandwagon fan. The author didn't write about them. Aura did not say she was offended about it. I don’t like NFL bandwagon fans. Why you continue to go on and on and on about them is beyond me. The only reasonable explanation is that you have some serious "issues" in regards to reading and communication. Or you’re just trolling.

@Tanaka The only "personal attack" in this page is the one you just made by telling me I have issues. I told you you're wrong and explained why. That's neither a personal attack, nor off topic. It's called an argumented discussion where I'm from. And just the fact you ignored every point I made and just declared how I'm missing the point without saying why you think so, just proves that you have nothing meaningful to say to me. @Logic The only ironic thing here is your name. It's ABSOLUTELY IRRELEVANT if I know football better than EVERYONE ELSE. Surely I don't. But see I DON'T NEED TO. I need to know it better than you and others like you, which I do. When I point out my football experience, I'm not doing it because I want to brag about it (how infantile do you need to be to think that?), but because I wan't to back up my arguments with the fact I have experience with the game, which most of you don't even have a hint of. And like Tanaka, YOU ALSO ignored every point I made and wrote 3 paragraphs about my English and how I'm not the best football expert in the world. Seriously, how old are you? And everyone, why did you get offended when I mentioned ignorant bandwagon jumpers? Who says I was talking about you personally? When I say - read the comment - I mean it.

You are wrong. Everyone is wrong. I know because I played football for 30 years, won 3 superbowl rings, the Heisman Trophy, all-pro, all-state, all-everything. A field goal is worth 3 points. Sometimes safeties blitz. Screen pass. Zone defence. Wishbone formation. 34 Power. Bootleg. See, I know stuff. Much more than any of you. I'm also good at name dropping. Barry Sanders, Michael Irvin, Walter Payton, Ronnie Lott, Steve Atwater, Tom Landry, Tom Brady, Marcia Brady. This is partly why Jarryd Hayne got waived. The other reason was because all 32 teams gave me a call and asked "Hey Coach Nexx, what should we do about Hayne?" I told them that I was sick of Aussies who know nothing about American Football. I said that I was sick of everyone that wasn't as educationamal as me about everything. Wait... what was this article about again?

You are absolutely brilliant at missing the point. Your attitude, going around accusing people of not reading the comments carefully is not only ironic, but clearly shows you would rather make random insults towards people rather than address the topic. Also, how much more arrogant but totally irrelevant talk about how to play football are you going to type? It seems you think you are the only person to have played the game. Nope. Clearly you seem to think you're better and have more football experience than everyone else. Nope. You've coached football but I'm guessing you never taught English Literature, else the ridiculous criticism of the authors final sentence you would know was not meant to be objective, but rather a subjective statement to display his support for Hayne, to authenticate his belief in supporting athletes, even when they're not performing well. The fact that you took it so literally, or were so pedantic about its form, shows you either need education in literature, or are desperately looking for an argument. All that whilst conveniently ignoring everything Aura pointed out.
