Barcelona stars Gerard Pique and Dani Alves wasted no time voicing their opinions following the Spanish Football Federation’s decision to expel Real Madrid from the Copa Del Rey.

The Spanish footballing authorities announced that Rafa Bentiez’s Madrid will take no further part in this year’s competition after they fielded Denis Cheryshev during their midweek Cup win over Cadiz.

Cheryshev was carrying a Copa Del Rey suspension from his loan spell at Vilarreal last season, and was banned from playing in fixture.

As the ban comes into immediate effect, next week’s second leg has now been cancelled, despite Real’s 3-1 aggregate lead, and Cadiz will progress to the next round.

As news of Real’s error began to leak on Twitter, Pique cheeekily tweeted a series of laughing emojis. When quizzed about the matter he replied, “You know me, I found [Cheryshev playing] funny.”

Teammate Alves went a step further, telling Spanish radio station Cadena COPE that he fully agreed with decision: “They should be kicked out of the competition.”

Madrid insist that they were not notified of the suspension, however Alves had little sympathy, saying, “Such things should not be happening at Real Madrid.”

Madrid club president Florentino Perez has annonuced that the club intend to appeal the decision to the RFEF Appeals Committee.
