Steve Smith and James Faulkner have locked in million-dollar Indian Premier League contracts during Tuesday’s draft.

Smith, Faulkner and Shane Watson were among a pool of players with uncertain futures, having been on the books of suspended Twenty20 franchise Rajasthan Royals.

Australia skipper Smith was snapped up with Pune’s fourth choice in the draft, with the new franchise forking out 55 million rupees (AUD1.13 million).

Rajkot paid the same price to sign allrounder Faulkner, named man of the match in Australia’s World Cup final win.

They were the only Australians signed during the draft.

India icon MS Dhoni was unsurprisingly the No.1 pick, Pune agreeing to pay the former Chennai Super Kings skipper 125 million rupees (AUD2.6 million).

Some fifty players went into the IPL draft.

Those not picked up, like Watson, will try to find a home during the league’s main auction in February.
