Much like traditional sports teams, organisations in eSports give players a platform to play on a competitive level.

Sponsors in the eSports industry provide financial support, travel and accommodation for LAN (local) events, and gear such as controllers, keyboards, mice, and headsets.

For the Oceanic regions, organisations are a necessary part of a region that is lacking in financial support. To put that into context, gaming regions such as North America, Europe, Korea and China (and even Latin America) are making enough of a profit that they are able to purchase gaming houses for the team to live in.

While the Oceanic region has had gaming houses in the past (Avant Garde and Hellions eSports Club come to mind), there hasn’t been much success with them so far.

In this profile, we’ll be introducing you to the different organisations that make up the Oceanic eSports scene. Some of these organisations run on nothing but passion for the growth and development of the Oceanic competitive gaming scene.

Legacy eSports
Sponsors: ASUS, Creative

Legacy eSports is an organisation that was formed on July 4, 2014 after the players broke off from their previous organisation to create their own. In their words, they describe themselves as a “player focused organisation” and use the phrase “For the players, by the players”.

One of the interesting things to note about the Legacy organisation is the amount of success they have.

Organisational structure
Although they are one of the most popular and successful League of Legends organisations in Australia, the business manager and player manager is an unpaid role.

Aside from those operational roles, the organisation also has a social media manager who handles the fan engagement, and graphic designers to create banners, headers, and promotional images for the team.

Players
The organisation started off after the decision from the League of Legends team to break off from the Avant Garde organisation (the team was formerly known as Avant Garde Ascension). Since then, the organisation has also acquired a successful Counter-Strike: Global Offensive squad.

As we’ve mentioned before, this squad has proven to be one of the best and most popular teams in the Oceanic Pro League and their list of achievements is equally as impressive.

Legacy also fields a Counter-Strike: Global Offensive team. Formerly known as Animal Squad, the team consisted of well-known and proven players from the Oceanic region. According to the Peanut Gallery CSGO OCE rankings, they are the third best CS:GO team in Oceania at the time of writing.

Scouting process
Legacy was created via its players. From there, the management team also foster growth by recruiting players into its Legacy Genesis team. Players are often scouted in the Challenger (highest) tier ladder and developed in the Genesis team.

The Counter-Strike: Global Offensive team had sent in a request for Legacy to sponsor them. According to Legacy, “[they] impressed us with their attitude, and existing team culture… they demonstrated the combination of skill and culture they (Legacy) wanted.”

Conclusion
Legacy field some of the best eSports teams in Oceania. With the League of Legends OPL Split 1 looming ahead, look for the squad to challenge for the top spot in the region.

LegacyCSGO are also another squad to look out for. With PeanutGallery.tv rating them highly, the pressure is on. The team is on the up, and can challenge Team Immunity and the Chiefs eSports Club for the top spot, and for the chance to represent Oceania at the Extreme Masters tournament in Taipei.
