Virat Kohli again proves his worth

By Adam Julian / Roar Guru

Does Steve Smith own a violin? Has he ever heard the saying, “if you can’t take it, don’t dish it”?

How amusing this week has it been to watch the sulking of his team following the gobful he received from Virat Kohli?

The Australian cricket team taking a moral high ground on sledging, you can’t be serious?

The most loutish trash talkers in world sport are offended?

Let me remind you this mob has been compared to a pack of mongrels. They have a history of treating their opponents with contempt and now somebody is giving it back – and they don’t like it at all.

Mindless and hurtful sledging has no place in any sport, and Kohli isn’t exempt from this, but you can’t help but chuckle at the irony of Australia’s limp response – especially given Kohli’s remarks aren’t particularly offensive. He hasn’t threatened to break bones or labelled an opponent’s wife a curry muncher.

The relentless and deliberate sledging of Australia is a stain on the game. Perhaps the only way to humble Australia is to beat them at their own game. To conquer a bully, strike once and emphatically.

Even better Kohli can talk. His record against Australia is outstanding. In Tests he has made 1276 runs at 60.76 with six centuries, including five in Australia. In one day cricket he has scored 1002 runs at 55.66 and he averages 53.80 in Twenty20 fixtures. His taunts carry a little bit more weight than those of an average player.

The great entertainer Billy Joel ends every concert with a catchphrase, ‘don’t take s**t from anybody.’

Virat Kohli lives by this mantra. His superior batsmanship and refusal to tolerate crap is totally admirable.

Sorry Anil, I'm not Australian for a start...lol. No doubt Kohli is a wonderful player but have you seen the pitches he has been making all these runs on? All his run in Australia have been on absolute roads in the past two tours. Again, he is a great player but I don't consider the best batsman in the world.

Bobby, pitch was same for everyone. Regarding England , it is just one tour yet, what about your greats in India I.e Ponting , gilly , Warnie couldn't get wickets lol. Enjoy the game and give credit where it is due. Kohli is going to be an all time great. You may not like that but you can't do anything about it. 25 hundreds in odi and 11 in tests . Keep counting and keep winging .on a side note Maybe Google Kohli in Australia , New Zealand and South Africa . I am sure you will find that ball moves at some of these venues as well and he has scored a few hundreds there.

Kohli's known to be passionate about his cricket on the field and is able to channelise most, if not all, of his aggression into his batting. Would he be the same player if he were unable to express himself so uninhibitedly? I wonder.

Kohli is not the best batsman in the world. He makes truckloads of runs on roads. Smith, Williamson, ABD, Warner are better players. Kohli has a Test average of 13 in England form 10 innings, showing when the ball does something against decent bowling he is not all that.

I do too but just stop sledging them, unless you want them to play well.

We have the flattest pitches for our batsman more than Kholi i think, more of our batsman are better on flat pitches than any other countries so thats why we have flat pitches.

The tone of the article is obviously there to get a bite but the general message, that if you cant take it dont dish it out, i think is fine. We australians even made a new word for it, 'mental disintegration', we love to sledge and always have and used to be the best at it without compare. Granted that was mostly due to the fact that the stars aligned and we got a generation of awesome cricketers and its so much easier to sledge when you are so obviously going to win. But now we are, at best, the first among equals and i think we should still sledge but you dont complain about it off the pitch unless it crosses the line into being racist which it hasnt. I think we should sledge and we should be sledged but we should stop sledging Kholi and Broad. They like it.

Well, we did want to give him the same treatment if and when he got out, but that didn't happen.
